Actually, there could be. You need to make sure you take your renewal class and submit your paperwork as soon as possible after you submit your online app. If DPS receives the application and starts processing it but does not have your CHL-100, they may send you a letter requesting your paperwork from class. At that point you have only 90 days to submit it. If you exceed the 90 days and don't send in what they request, they can terminate your application. If they terminate your application you have to start all over just like a new CHL and take the whole class and pay for a new license ($140 vs. $70).
Oh oh. I have been sitting around after having applied online and haven't even scheduled my first renewal class.

I better start shopping!
