I just returned from running around Portsmouth, VA and surrounding historical sites and failed to see a single case of Open Carry.03Lightningrocks wrote:By your thinking, there would never be a robbery of any establishment with armed gaurds. There would also never be any armed car couriers robbed. Both happen all the time. Apparently the gun showing or even the knowledge of the courier having a gun, didn't scare off those bad guys.gabe wrote:You can't turn on the TV these days without seeing your story happening in open carry states every day.03Lightningrocks wrote:If a bad guy knows your armed, they may very well shoot you in the back of the head instead of trying to threaten you. Your wife running around with CHL holder all over her could easily make a theif want to steal her gun or even cause a gang banger to want to take her out for sport. This idea that people are afraid of you because you have a gun is simply not true. You and your wife aren't scaring anyone with your guns. Watch a couple episodes of that inside prison show. Bad people will feed you your gun.
Keep it a secret and surprise the bad guy. Then you and your wife have a chance. Let em know your armed and they will just take you two out commando style. Nobody is afraid of you and your gun... trust me....PLEASE!!!!
Don't get me started on bank guards and armored car couriers who open carry, There must be hundreds getting killed "commando style" every day in Texas alone.
You make me curious now. Do open carry states have less crime??? By your thinking, they should.

My Condo Association rents out our Recreation Center. I should check into pricing and then see if anyone on this forum is actually interested.

I would be looking for best original "Hey I am carrying concealed" item. The more flamboyant the better. There could be a door-prize..45mac.40 wrote:

Re: "I Carry A Badge" Leather Concealed Weapon Permit Holder
I would love to have a local TexasCHLforum get-together sometime. We could all recognize one another upon entering the building by a requirement to wear CCW sashes, badges, jackets, hats or any other thing that comes to mind.
Just that alone would be priceless.

Re: "I Carry A Badge" Leather Concealed Weapon Permit Holder
I remember lots of younger Military guys (myself included at the time) reading SoF magazine. We considered it highly entertaining and chock-full of cool advertisements.MojoTexas wrote:I agree the badges are incredibly stupid but I wouldn't go as far as offensive, at least not to me. You have to remember a significant demographic of the "gun crowd" will always be insecure/immature wanna-be types...whether it's wanna-be cops and mall ninjas buying Concealed Weapons Permit badges, or wanna-be "elite tactical operator" soldiers who have never served a day in the armed forces. I too remember reading Soldier of Fortune magazines in the 1980s that my dad would bring home and dream of being a "merc" in Rhodesia or something similar...but thankfully I outgrew that phase. Some guys, unfortunately, never did. (I might add that my dad is retired Air Force...he read SoF for entertainment back in those days. He obviously wasn't special forces but had many occasions to work with them over the years he flew C-130s.)jestmaty wrote:BTW- the most recent posts of the "badge" sold at cheaper than dirt are incredibly offensive and just plain stooopid (intentionally misspelled). Only a complete moron would buy one of those, either for real or a joke.
My point is that those wanna-be types are mostly harmless, and they represent a significant customer base of any firearm business. CTD is just trying to make a buck, and if selling CWP badges and tactical gear to wanna-be's helps keep their ammo and firearm prices low, I don't mind.

Re: "I Carry A Badge" Leather Concealed Weapon Permit Holder
What about us Martial Arts amateurs?03Lightningrocks wrote:There are folks who get a CHL because they are scared. They want everyone to know they have a gun so they don't have to worry about being attacked. They are operating under a false sense of security.
Then there are the folks who think they can whip out a badge for instant respect from the police. What most will discover is that some cops would prefer we are all disarmed. Then there is always the chance a cop will think your going for a gun when you are trying to pull out your badge and shoot you. Having a CHL badge is right up there with wearing a Dick Tracy decoder ring. It is just straight up weird.
Next on the list are the frustrated citizens who always wanted to be a cop but never went to the trouble. Now that they have a CHL, they get to do the coolest part of being a cop... carry a gun. A badge would help fill in the emotional gap left by not having a means of showing off the gun.
Then we have the majority of folks who feel a firearm may be necessary at some point to defend their lives and/or their families lives. We hope and pray we never need to use the weapon and have no desire to brag about our ability. Kind of like a martial arts expert. They just keep it to themselves and only use it when forced to.

Re: "I Carry A Badge" Leather Concealed Weapon Permit Holder
I look at it this way:
- the Burglar has no idea what is in your house, but has decided to target it. The burglar makes sure you are not home and simply breaks in and takes stuff.
- the Burglar has a good idea that your house probably has at least one weapon and decides that that equals good drug money at the very least. Since there is a cool sign implying that the owner is ready, able and willing to terminate with extreme prejudice any intruders the burglar decides that a simple armed Home Invasion would be warranted whether or not anyone is home.
I personally would not want to provide a BG with intell.

Re: "I Carry A Badge" Leather Concealed Weapon Permit Holder
Just what I was going to say. It is the uncertainty factor that is a deterrant. When you know your enemy, you are less likely to fear him.Hoi Polloi wrote:The stats taken, which I haven't looked up so I'm taking your word for it, of more guns in society=less crimes overall are from a macro level. That does not necessarily mean that more guns known to be on a particular property or person (micro level) the less likely they are to have crimes perpetrated against them. Someone started a thread here the other day about all of his reloading supplies and bullets being stolen. They aren't scared of guns they know about. If they know where a gun is, they can control it easier. They're scared of guns they'll be surprised by.
A sign simply means, "Caution, there is good stuff here. You might have to work a little harder to get it, but it is here".

Re: "I Carry A Badge" Leather Concealed Weapon Permit Holder
In my experience that depends entirely on how you come across to a BG. If they see that you are armed and not confident in yourself they certainly might try to take advantage of it. If they don't see you are armed but are most certainly confident the opposite tends to apply.Embalmo wrote:I will never be convinced that a bad guy would attack an individual because he is armed. Irrefutable numbers have established that the vast majority of criminals are lazy, cowardly, and above all non-suicidal. Now the thing about non-compliant signs goes back to my frustration of the ignorance of the antis, and the left, who invite criminals with their no guns policies.Particularly if I was alone in a scary area, I would not want to make others think I have a CHL both because it could be taken as a challenge to one-up me and because the element of surprise would not be on my side as the bad guy introduced himself by trying to disarm me

I haven't seen an issue of Soldier of Fortune magazine since I was much younger, but I presume that ads just like this one still adorn its hallowed pages.
