Re: my husband

SewTexas wrote:We went in today for Robert's 6 week follow-up.

his PSA is undetectable!
his margins were clear!

so, they got all of the cancer!!!!

that means no radiation is needed!!!!

he will go in every 6 months for a PSA check and other follow-ups for the first 2 years, but they really don't expect anything.

Thank you all for your prayers over the last several months. Honestly without several of you slightly pushing us we wouldn't have really even considered MD Anderson. Our experience with them has been amazing.
I'm very happy to hear how this turned out.

God does answer prayers.

The docs played an important role as well. MDA is a place where they do the merely impossible every day, and miracles take just a little bit longer.

Re: my husband (4/30)

SewTexas wrote:Robert had his surgery today. it went better than anyone could have/should have expected. The doctor was truly amazed. ;-) I told him the team was covered in prayer.

What a wonderful God we have!

We will find out in 6 weeks at his check up if they got it all, or if there is a reason to do radiation.
That is wonderful news!

Anything that amazes the docs down there is truly a rare event.

We'll keep the prayers coming for more good news in 6 weeks.

Re: my husband update 4/3

SewTexas wrote:we went to MD Anderson today.

We took the MRI Robert had done last week with us, we still didn't have a reading from it, but we had it on CD so we took it.
We met with a "fellow" and her surgeon, (he's wonderful, has done over 1600!) and a radiologist and her resident and lots of nurses.
We learned from the MRI that the cancer is also outside of the prostate, it's in the seminal vesicles and it's on the outside of the prostate.
Surgery seems to be the right choice now. probably followed by radiation, but that will be decided later.
6 long hours!!!
Surgery is scheduled for April 30th at MD Anderson
The right treatment always starts with the right diagnosis, and MD Anderson uses a collaborative team approach where team members present treatment plan ideas, the team vets each one, and arrives at a group consensus on a recommendation for the patient. This, combined with the fact that MDA hires only the cream of the crop of cancer specialists, is a large part of the reason for their very high rate of good outcomes.

Their presentation to the patient is also thorough and understandable so the patient can make good informed decisions instead of being pushed into a course of treatment that they're not sure is best.

Your husband is in good hands. We will continue to pray for successful treatment and rapid and complete recovery for him, and strength and faith for you.

Re: my husband

Prayers for healing and strength sent for you both.

Please consider getting a second opinion at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

No matter how exotic or unusual a cancer is, somewhere in that city within a city is a doc who knows more about saving people with that particular type of cancer than anyone else on the planet.

My friends and relatives include several MDA "saves" in "impossible" or "very unlikely" cases. They may be able to offer you a better treatment without that surgery, which carries some pretty severe side effect risks.
