I have fired both the .40 and the 9mm, and like them both. They're reliable, compact, easy to use with no surprises, light for everyday carry, and easy to conceal.SkipB wrote:The wife and I were out browsing around today and stopped by Unique Guns in Waco and they had there M&P Shields for $419. So I bought one. I now own two of them, both in 9mm. I have one I carry daily. I love my Shield.
The 9mm is definitely easier to control in rapid fire.
I favor trigger characteristics that are as similar to those found on a good 1911 as possible, and even though the Shield has a completely different action type, a very satisfactory trigger pull can be achieved with the swap out of a few parts.
I've shot Shields that have been upgraded with the APEX trigger kits, and they definitely make a difference in smoothing out the stock trigger pull, which is a bit gritty and creepy on some guns.
Installing the Apex parts is not a job for the guy who only has one hammer and rusty screwdriver and has never done a full pistol take down, though. It requires a good roll pin punch and a bench block designed to hold polymer pistol receivers is a big help, and a good sight pusher saves a lot of frustration. With those, it'll take around 45 minutes to an hour.
