Sheer stupidity.
It would not be stupid if the intent were to ban as many weapons as possible - which is clearly the case.

I believe it's a critical error to attach misguided good intentions to these folks any more. When you look at the pattern of gun bans, congressionally authorized extrajudicial killings of citizens at the whim of the president (currently practiced overseas but without a prohibition on doing so on American soil), to authorization of arrests without legal cause followed by indefinite military detention without any appeal or recourse, a reasonable person might well conclude we're witnessing a deliberate and single minded attempt to end liberty in America. If anyone can think of another explanation for the current highly choreographed nationwide assault on freedoms of all types, please let me know.

This battle is about a lot more than gun rights, and looking away from where these folks are trying to take us will most certainly not keep us from arriving there.
