I use the same bags for travel all the time and never keep anything that would cause a problem in them.
If I'm going to check a bag with gun / ammo, knife, tools, etc. the gun goes in a lockbox, the ammo in a conspicuous original ammo container, and the knife, tool set, etc. goes in an orange nylon zipper bag so I can't miss it when I unpack. All these items go only in the main compartment, which I unpack completely except for the toiletry and liquids bags, which are never used to carry item that wouldn't be allowed in a carryon bag.
Having rigid rules that become habits prevents having to come up with long and dubious explanations to those gentle folks behind the scanning machines.....

Re: man arrested for attempting to board plane with gun + am
Since the passenger's story didn't jive with the evidence (dated receipts) I have a hard time accepting that the gun's presence was accidental.schufflerbot wrote:http://www.click2houston.com/news/29175459/detail.html
no bueno!
my instinct tells me that this was an accident.
but do you think there was an intent to do harm here, or just an honest mistake?
What he planned to do with it is anyone's guess.
