I haven't seen any correlation between whether an officer does or doesn't carry off duty and whether or not he or she maintains good physical condition.schufflerbot wrote:Excaliber wrote:Some officers see carrying an off duty weapon as a form of uncompensated work for their agency. If true, then wow - you have a job where you meet lowlifes on a regular basis, but you don't
carry off duty? Sheesh.

These are the same guys and gals who refuse to train or enhance their survival skills unless they're being paid to do that too.
The reasoning (or lack thereof) speaks for itself.

What else can I say?
id be willing to bet that those are also the 'officers' so out of shape and overweight that they couldn't give a foot chase two thoughts before hyperventilating. i have several LEO friends and when one of them started to get a little thick around the waistband, i gave it to him good. imho, an officer needs to be in good physical condition, good mental condition and prepared to act on any criminal activity, regardless of whether he is on or off duty.

I didn't change it - I only highlighted your phrase in color.speedsix wrote:...I didn't say heck, I said Gehenna...and it's not a curse word, it's the name of a real place...so there's no need to change it, thank you!
Perhaps one of the other mods did so before I saw your post.

Well said.speedsix wrote:...those are the same guys who lie that they're too far away to back you up on a potentially bad call...and you pass them at the next intersection...they're just there for the paycheck and have no sense of calling nor duty...I actually had a sergeant over night shift tell HQ that the fight had broken up that they'd sent me to...when I passed him at the end of the service road(he was leaving)...I found about 50 indivs. from one bar and 30 from the next bar over mixing it up on the lot...had one guy pull a knife...raised my prosecutor to disarm him and someone behind me grabbed it...pulled my revolver and the knife disappeared...told everyone the wagons were on the way and everyone on the lot would go to jail when they arrived and the rats melted into the ratholes for another drink...my heroic sergeant, who'd never even gotten out of his car...checked in as being down for coffee...he never could look me in the eye again, for some reason...
...there's them you'd wade through heck with...and them you wouldn't walk with in a parade...

Some officers see carrying an off duty weapon as a form of uncompensated work for their agency. They refuse to do it when they're not being paid to do so.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:Somewhere or other (I can't provide a link) I read that a surprising number of LEO's
