Those bits of guidance haven't changed any over the years - they're just as valid today.

With the hi cap magazines, even though they give you more rounds than the revolvers we used to carry, they don't come with any more time.

It's still true that you can't miss fast enough or often enough to win a gunfight.

You're probably right.

The only hits we could confirm were the ones that went through the back window of the truck. Those appeared to be mostly very much on target.

...nah, too many shots fired after he stopped shooting, turned, and headed for the truck...we're not talkin' a great distance according to the dashcam...once he got into the truck, I'm agreein' with you...but he never should have made it into the truck...and, no, I haven't been in any gunfights, but success is measured by making your shots count...pistol or revolver shoulda had him before he got back into the truck...

This was a real world gunfight, not a movie version. Without an autopsy report, we wouldn't know if the BG was hit before he got into the truck or not.

He may well have been, perhaps even fatally. Absent a central nervous system hit (which is pretty tough to do on a moving target), we know that someone whose heart is completely destroyed can continue to function pretty well for 15 - 20 seconds on the oxygen still in his system, even though it isn't being replenished.

Just because he didn't react according to the expectations of one shot stop theorists doesn't rule out that the officers were right on target.

I think what you're seeing is the "backward" spray of tiny glass shards that occurs when a high speed projectile penetrates this type of safety glass.
