I use one expressly to avoid sticking my booger-hook in the trigger while fumbling around in my pocket for keys, etc.
That is why I NEVER put ANYTHING in the pocket with my pocket pistol. Whether it is in the DeSantis Nemesis holster or not, there is NOTHING else in that pocket, and I have no reason to have my hand in there unless it is on the firearm for that "just in case" kind of moment (at which time my trigger finger is extended along the frame and my thumb is on the rear sight to keep it from hanging up in case it needs to come out), or I'm removing it from my pocket at home. Way too many bad things waiting to happen by having other stuff in the pocket along with a loaded handgun, regardless if it is in a holster or not.
Another illustration of one of those "bad things" was the recent LA case where a gun in a student's backpack discharged when the backpack was set down and the bullet struck one student in the neck and the one behind him in the head.

Or directly into firing chambers, for us wheelgun guys:

Point well taken.

I knew I was overlooking something with that wording - thanks for filling in the blanks!

He sat down and it was not comfortable. So, he "adjusted" the weapon and shot himself in the rear

This caused him to remove himself to the restroom to "remove" the weapon and check the damage.

In the removal, he pulled the trigger again, and shot himself in the foot.
I'd put this guy right up there with the DEA agent who shot himself in the leg on videotape while demonstrating gun safety.

2011 is not starting out well for the 2A.
Suggestion:

Try finding an article on a DUI accident with multiple fatalities and ask him if it isn't good reason to ban private possession of motor vehicles.

After all, if we could save only one life, it would be worth it - right?

Irresponsible exercise of any right or privilege is not prima facie evidence that the right or privilege should be abolished.

In the cases of both cars and guns, the benefits of private possession far outweigh the negative impacts that occur when people screw up.

Re: Accidental Discharge in Houston Restaurant

I may be missing something, but I have a hard time understanding why someone would want to carry a two shot gun that is over six inches long, weighs 23 1/2 ounces unloaded, and doesn't have a trigger guard when one could carry a much safer and more capable firearm in the same size / weight envelope.

At over $600, price is clearly not a good reason either.

Thanks, Warhammer - Excellent illustration of the differences.

A clip is a device, usually made of sheet metal, that simply holds a group of rounds in a configuration that allows them to be more quickly loaded into either an internal or external magazine than they could be if you had to load them one by one by hand.

In pistols, rifles, and shotguns a magazine has a spring and a cartridge follower and serves as an ammunition feeding device during the firing cycle.

Clips are usually used for loading only and do not stay in the gun during carrying or firing. Magazines stay in the gun.

The en bloc Garand clip shown at the far right of Warhammer's illustration is one of the exceptions to this, but it still fits the definition of a clip. The magazine with the spring and follower are a permanent part of the gun's mechanism and are not removable like the ones in most pistols and autoloading rifles.

Protrusion from the body of the weapon is not the determinant of which is which.
