In many agencies, the patrol sector is used as the radio identifier. This is less confusing for Dispatch because the geographic relationship between the call for service location and the patrol sector it falls in is the critical information for deciding who to send where. By the way, do all police cars have some kind of unit number posted
on the dash or somewhere, so that when you call dispatch, you are
always sure to give the correct cruiser number?
I would assume that the unique patrol car number would have to be
inside someplace since you may drive different units, even if you
usually have a takehome.
