This was a great outing.
I very much enjoyed meeting several of our members.
Thanks to Hoi Polloi for putting this very successful activity together!

Re: DFW get-together - 9 AM Oct 2 @ Elm Fork - Taking Headco
You may want to reconsider bringing the infant. The range is outdoors and parking is close to the firing line. You need good hearing protection the moment you get out of your vehicle. I can't think of a way to keep a child of that age safe from potential hearing damage unless your wife stays at the office with him or her - and that wouldn't be much fun for the wife.suthdj wrote:I have a 16 YO I would like to bring, however his seriousness in regards to weapons has not given me much confidence. I want to bring him to the range but he needs to sit with me and learn a few basic safety items first. He has yet to take time from his life to learn. So I will bring the wife and 20 month old and hope the wife gets a chance to shoot a .380 or 9mm she has fired my .45(G21) which is a bit large for her hands.lonewolf wrote:It appears that both my boys may be with me that weekend. Ages 15 and 16. They've been asking for me to take them shooting again, so this may be a good opportunity for them. I'll make sure any adolescent 'tudes are checked at the door. I have to say that their behavior so far around firearms has been exemplary, so I would expect the trend to continue......

Re: DFW get-together - 9 AM Oct 2 @ Elm Fork - Taking Headco
Good reminders, Hoi.Hoi Polloi wrote:I was thinking of bringing name tags for that purpose. It isn't a mandate for coming, but it would be nice for those who would like to participate to be able to put names with faces.
One common-sense ground rule for meeting in person which I will plainly state for the benefit of those like me who would want the assurance before doing so: if you meet someone in person, don't share online what is shared in person. Things like occupation, name, pictures, or other details about a person's life would not be appropriate to share over the internet without his or her express permission. You can get it there or with a PM after returning or you can leave the personal details out and just talk about the fun stuff.
Comments like "You should have it out here by BobD and me next time." could say a lot if you disclose your city but BobD doesn't. Or, "Your wife YerMatte was a really great shooter, JohnS. I've been teasing her at work all morning about shooting like a girl!" gives quite a lot of info that they might not have wanted to share. Instead, "You should have it out here by me next time. I know there are other shooters in the area who would be interested." Then BobD may choose to speak up for himself, privately or publicly. And a private message to JohnS for the latter would be best.
I hope that sets people's minds at ease about meeting in person. We should all be able to relax and enjoy.
OK, so date, place, time, nametags... the only thing left is food. Is there no interest in having socializing time or just don't care where or something else?
I'm up for lunch afterwards.

That's why we need the name tag......Pawpaw wrote:Don't you think you could recognize me? ========================================>
Edit: Maybe not... I don't wear a flat top any more.Excaliber wrote:Suggestion:
Encourage everyone to wear a name tag with their Forum screen name so we can associate a name and a face.

Re: DFW get-together - Come one, come all!
This sounds great. It looks like it's about an hour and a half west of DFW on I20, but the facilities might make the drive worthwhile for an all day outing in the future.dirtyrice wrote:Cool I may try and come to this depending on the date. I've known andyc for a while.
I'm not too excited about this rule though.
"5. All Rifles must have a minimum of 3x power scope for the 100 yard range"
I never use scopes I only have one and it's not sighted in. Plus I have many rifles I would want to bring which I couldn't mount the scope on.
Too bad you guys don't do this at tacpro shooting center. http://www.tacproshootingcenter.com/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They host 3 gun matches and teach firearms classes. They have a 100yd range,200yd range for paper targets, two 50yd ipsc bays which usually have steel in them but haven't sometimes lately. Might have to ask them for it. You can shoot from the benches, sitting, laying down, no restriction on fmj or much of anything besides tracers I think,no rapid fire rule, ipsc bays allow you to move and shoot.
But that cowboy action shooting range at elm fork looks neat. :)

Re: DFW get-together - Come one, come all!
Elm Fork's hours of operation are 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. I'd suggest planning to meet at opening time because the range is very popular and shooting lanes will fill up fast during good weather.Hoi Polloi wrote:OK, I think we largely have consensus on location. How about date and time?
No date will be good for everyone, but this doesn't have to be a one time event either.
I'll throw out Saturday Sept. 18 and Saturday Sept. 25 as proposed dates. If everyone expresses a preference for one or the other, I propose we go with whichever date works for the most folks.

I'm interested too, and +1 on a Dallas side location.MedicMan218 wrote:I'm interested but would prefer something on the Dallas side.
How about the really nice Elm Fork outdoor range?
