Exactly. Punishing the many for the actions of the few. Like the attempts at new gun laws, it is all emotion based with no basis in reality. Mom and Dad lost their precious offspring to drugs so they blame the Doctors who prescribed the meds. They then demand a restriction be placed on the meds and the Doctors rather than working on the minority that abuse them. Sounds like a common theme. "It is always someone else fault" Not the fault of the criminal. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 9:53 am"They" might assume such, but that has no more validity than assuming that I sell all the guns i buy out of the trunk of my car to ghetto rats. I don’t. And I resent the crap out of that assumption. My DOCTOR and I know that I’m not, and those are the only opinions that should matter. And JUST as with guns, I have to jump through additional hoops, because SOME people will misbehave. But all the laws in the world aren't going to stop their misbehavior. All those laws do is make the lives of the law-abiding like myself more complicated and inconvenient than they need to be.03Lightningrocks wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 9:41 amThey assume you are selling the extra pills since that is what some folks on medicare or other government assistance programs do for extra money with their meds. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 8:41 am
But here’s the thing.... and this is my reaction to the increasing crackdown on opioids.... I refill that prescription each month, even though I’ll typically have most of the previous refill still unused. That is much easier (and cheaper) than letting the prescription expire before I can buy all of the refills, and then having to make another doctor appointment and jump through those hoops again to get another prescription ordered, when nothing has really changed. I have a chronic back problem, with hardware in my spine, and the situation isn’t ever going to go away. Managing my pain this way is for MY convenience, and the gov’t be damned. It means that I can restrict my trips to the doctor to my semi-annual wellness checkups, and get anything that needs refilling reordered on those visits.
My doctor knows I’m doing this. He’s not stupid, but he knows this because I tell him that’s what I do. In other words, he knows that I’m not abusing my meds. But the state assumes the worst about me, because some people do abuse their meds.

Re: Help identifying rattler!!
I am happy to read you are doing better. I get the hesitation to go to the hospital. I am guilty of this also. I almost lost my arm due to a serious staph infection. Ended up in hospital for 8 days.
Doctors have become terrified to give pain meds. Thanks to government over reach. Welcome back and hope you get better soon.

Re: Help identifying rattler!!
One of the problems with rattle snake bites is that one is very likely to be a fair distance out in the sticks. The odds of me coming across a rattler in Plano Texas are about the same as getting a lotto win. But if I do get bit, the hospital is about ten minutes from anywhere in town one happens to be.

Re: Help identifying rattler!!
I was thinking he finally went to hospital and is undergoing treatment for the bite area. Waiting like he did allows the venom to do lots of damage around bite site. I am hoping for the best. He usually posted at least once a day.

Re: Help identifying rattler!!
No they don't. I was dove hunting up in the pan handle several years ago. I was sitting in a bunch of sunflowers. My hunting buddy called out from the sunflowers so I stood up and started walking at him. He drew down and fired about 2 feet from where I was sitting. It was a 6 foot long western diamond back. Who knows how long that snake was right there beside me. He never rattled once.Oldgringo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 9:10 pm We were shooting skeet one Sunday afternoon at the Pampa Gun Club, circa 1990, for some reason I turned around and saw a ~30" rattler right behind us on Station 7. I shot it, someone skinned it for a hatband or belt or something. I lost the rattles when I traded that Dodge Dakota. They don't all rattle a hello.

Re: Help identifying rattler!!
I have crossed paths with many a rattler while out hunting. Most of them survived, a few did not. Rattlers have always been the snake I feared the most but truth is, all but one of them was trying to get away as I approached. That snake did not survive the encounter. I have known as long as I can remember that even a dead rattler would still strike, head on or off. I therefor have never tried to pick one of them up.
The OP of this thread did not see the snake until after it bit him. The one you don't see is the one that usually gets you.

I was actually just thinking of this guy myself. He usually posts at least once a day and has been absent since his last post on this thread. I am afraid you may be right about him having issues with the bite.

Re: Help identifying rattler!!
Maybe he went in. Even if they are too late for antivenom they can monitor the situation and maybe stave off some of the damage. I got hit by a moccasin once. I was wade fishing for crappie. Fortunately it hit my waders and did not go through. Scared the stuffing out of me though. I was thinking maybe he got me and I didn't feel it. Got those waders off in record time. LOLjason812 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 10:01 pmMy dad after a water moccasin bit him at the lake. He said he would go to the hospital if he felt funny. It must have been a dry bite.03Lightningrocks wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 12:45 pm I don't think I have ever known anyone who "waited it out" after a snake bite.
Be nice to have an update from the OP.

Re: Help identifying rattler!!
I remember seeing a story on TV a few years ago about some guy who was injecting venom from different snakes into himself to develop an immunity. In real life it is not how it normally works out. Even with medical care the bites often have horrible reactions. Maybe he decided to go in. I sure hope so.ELB wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 12:49 pmIn my old hometown in Indiana we had a guy who ran a serpentarium. Part of the "tour" was a big fat book of photographs of poisonous snake bites that people had "waited out"...and some that didn't wait but it didn't go well anyway. It's one of the more gruesome things I have seen. I indeed hope OP has long since made it to the ER and most of these posts are superfluous.03Lightningrocks wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 12:45 pm I sure hope you have gone in by now. Most of the pictures I found were too graphic to post here. The longer you wait the more damage is done.

Re: Help identifying rattler!!
You need to get to the hospital. Rattlesnake bites can cause your skin and muscle tissue to literally rot away around the bite.narcissist wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 1:38 am Got bit by this bad boy but it doesn't look like a eastern diamond back, more like a Mojave? I was reaching down to get the air chuck when he was right by the air compressor. Used my carry pistol to shoot it, the effects are not as bad as I thought it would be so far. Was hoping for a dry bite but not that lucky, going to try to ride it out but not sure yet.
