The ones that got away!!!!! Those are the ones I long for the most...LOL.glbedd53 wrote:I have a 6" 686 and I'll never sell it. Re: Trooper VS Python
I have been watching Gun Broker for Pythons and noticed they are suddenly crawling out from everywhere. It doesn't surprise me as the asking and bidding prices on them has gone through the roof the past couple weeks. I have seen this before. Guys see a gun they own fetch premium pricing and give it a go for themselves. Eventually they will begin to come down again but man oh man... you folks should go over there and look at some of the asking prices!!!! WOW!!!! Patience is on my side... I can wait. I watched other firearms of various design do the same thing. I even have benefited from the frenzy of semi-auto "assault
" rifles and made five to ten fold mark ups myself. I have decided on a Python and will wait it out for the right one.
By the way... I used to own a 586 in 6" barrel and loved that thing. I guess Smith quit making them.... I could kick myself for ever selling it, but that is also on my watch list. I really don't like the new style with the weird square looking barrel. that thing ain't no revolver...LOL.

Re: Trooper VS Python
Thanks very much. I looked at a trooper inmy local gun shop and was not impressed. I was thinking it was just that one. Hmmmm... now I have more to think about. It is appreciated. The Diamondbacks I like but was wanting the 357 on this go around.Mike1951 wrote:I doubt you'll be happy with the workmanshp of a Trooper. I would insist on a personal inspection, at least.
I would, however, keep my eyes open for a reasonable price on a Diamondback, if you can accept a .38. The quality is on par with the Python.

Re: Trooper VS Python
While the ruger is a nice weapon, I have my heart set on "unobtainium"
...I don't know what it is about a weapon that is out of reach for everyone, but I love em...LOL. Funny... I was looking for a model 29 but wanted the 29-2... now I went from having no Model 29-2 to having three. Two with consecutive serial numbers in 6"(brand new never fired...even have the stickers on the grips) and a beautiful 8 3/8th inch with the wood presentation case.
The rarity of the Python is part of my desire to own one. Looking at some tonight on Gun Broker... I might just get a trooper to start with and wait for a good buy on a Python later. Prices on GB tend to move like a breeze through a wheat field. Right now Pythons seem to be getting top dollar. There is one that says never fired and i believe it but it is already at a grand with a few days left. I might go bat poo and try to get it but I bet I only cause the price to sky rocket. I would go 1200 but no higher and the bidders on it seem a bit anxious. I like the even more "unobtainable" anaconda too. One of those on the whole sight.
I want one of each... but would have to give up a few other of my favorites from the safe to do this... darn... I need a rich relative or something.

Re: Trooper VS Python
I have to say, I have not heard a lot of complaints about the Pythons either but appreciate the heads up on the timing issues. I do want to shoot it, but have so many different guns it won't be getting beat to death. maybe 500 rounds a year or so. Again.... thanks for the heads up. I will watch for the issues you folks mentioned.

Re: Trooper VS Python
I have been doing some research the past couple hours. The Python is the one I would prefer but they are fewer available and more money. I will probably hold out for a nice Python since that was what I originally wanted.

Trooper VS Python
I am thinking I would like to pick up a Colt in 357. I am looking for a shooter more than a collector. I have noticed the Trooper seems more available and cheaper than the Python. I like the style of the Python better but the trooper feels nice and balanced.
I am looking for opinions on one over the other. thanks in advance.
