On that particular visit I would have gone on in and watched the movie while armed. But then I would never go back to that theater again. As a matter of fact, after reading that AMC is anti 2nd amendment on this forum, I decided to never go to an AMC.Crapshoot wrote:kauboy wrote:I was at the AMC theater in the Parks Mall in Arlington with the little lady. We were going to see "The Ugly Truth" (great man's man movie, wife loved it, don't take the kids )
Anyways, while we were getting our tickets, I looked down at the lower corner of the glass window pane, and there it was.
Worded to a 'T', English and Spanish.
I got squeamish...
I mumbled to my wife that I'd have to go back to the car, but then took another look... Sure enough, there was no possible way it was big enough. Easily smaller than 8x11.
So... I had a decision to make. I could walk all the way out to the parking lot and disarm to adhere to an improperly posted sign, or I could disregard it and take my chances if anything unexpected happened.
I don't like disarming when I don't absolutely have to, and I relish the technicalities that make the law so verbose.
You can probably guess which I chose.
So, I have to ask...
Do y'all think I did the right thing, or no?
Has anyone else been faced with this decision there?
( I did find the Parks thread, and saw that the Parks itself isn't posted. I also found the general AMC thread, but didn't find any answer addressing any size issue. 13 pages, maybe I missed it. Apologies if so.)[/quotef
I say ya did good. If the sign is impoperly posted it isn't valid. It would take a "pertinent" representative of the theater to say something to you for it to be an issue.

I may be wrong, but I think your saying the same thing he did. That is if your saying you won't disarm, so that means you won't be doing business there.kauboy wrote:To provide the best security to my wife and child that I can. Why be the legal test case?
"Close enough" isn't close enough to risk their safety. That's my opinion alone, and anyone else is free to disagree.

Does it simply mean not-cursive, or does it mean something more, such as all-caps? Also, does the 1" requirement apply to all the letters? If a sign uses upper and lower case, a capital 'A' may be an inch tall whereas a lowercase 'a' may only be a half-inch. Would that make the sign unenforceable? (My employer recently posted 30.06's in the parking lot, but only the first letter of each sentence is capitalized, and only the capital letters are 1" high.)
I would assume the sign to be good enough also. I don't carry around a tape measure and like most guys I tend to over estimate when it comes to measurements. So if I saw a 30.06 sign, regardless of size, I am no longer going to be a customer. A gun buster sign, on the other hand, tells me they don't want unlicensed carry and I go right on in.

All I know is I am taking my own water and candy into the theater...no matter the penalty. If they catch me, I will do like you and refuse to speak until I get my lawyer. I think the odds of getting caught are pretty slim as long as your water and candy are properly concealed. They have no way of catching us unless they have x-ray vision.boomerang wrote:We have a right to be silent. That is only applicable if they have the properly worded signage. otherwise, I walk right in with my concealed water and candy. I'm not recommending anyone else do this as I am sure nobody wants to be a legal test case, but I am a bit of a rebel and willing to take the chance in order to better afford my movie going experience.boomerang wrote:Many movie theaters prohibit outside food and drink.ScottDLS wrote:Be careful. They may post a "circle slash water" sign and ... class B misdemeanor trespass under 30.05 according to some arguments I've heard on this site.
I must also respectfully request that if you see a theater that doesn't have the proper signage to keep out contraband water and candy, please don't protest by writing a letter to the establishment about this flaw while threatening not to come back.
