Yeah...you caused me to go look at that too. It was me...not a vendor. I occasionally buy and sell guns on gun broker. I don't have a FFL. I am a bit miffed by this. They flat out told me I couldn't ship a firearm unless I was a FFL holder. Lone Star told me the same thing. Reading the requirements above...I should have been allowed to ship. The USPS told me the same about hand guns. I even had one local office refuse to ship a long gun for me. i went across town and shipped from a different location. Frustrating....simply frustrating... .rm9792 wrote:From http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resour ... r=firearms" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Special Procedures for Shipping Firearms
Use These UPS Services for Your Firearm Shipment
UPS accepts packages containing firearms, as defined by Title 18, Chapter 44, and Title 26, Chapter 53 of the United States Code, for transportation from and between licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and licensed collectors, as defined in Title 18, Chapter 44 of the United States Code, law enforcement agencies of the United States (or of any department or agency of the United States) and law enforcement agencies of any state or department agency (or political subdivision of any state), and from and between persons not otherwise prohibited from shipping firearms by federal, state or local law and when such shipment complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws applicable to the shipper, recipient and package.
Are you sure the vendor wasnt just refusing or unaware of UPS rules?
DHL does not allow it and Lone Star Overnight makes no mention of it on their site but customer service told me it was ok as long as federal and state laws were followed.

You might want to recheck your stats on that. Both have recently refused me.

Re: USPS Potential problem
I have and will sell and buy guns on Gun Broker, but I get real cautious about newbie sellers. I am glad your newbie turned out to be good. i bought a AK from a guy a year ago that changed the address of where he wanted me to send the money. I got real concerned and told him I would only do the deal if he would use an escrow service. he got insulted and threatened me. Then he found out GB policy says to not go through with the deal if either party tries to change contact info or if the guy selling tells you to send payment to po box. He got booted off GB. I don't know if he was legit or not, but he acted squirrely so that was all I needed to know. Other than that I have scored some decent deals on GB.
The Post Office in Plano won't ship hand guns for private parties at all...I know because I tried. One of the local offices even gives you crap about long guns. I found two in my area that know the rules and don't freak when you say "I Have A Gun"... ....to ship. I can assure you though that the rules forbid shipping of hand guns by private unlicensed folks. He may have gotten away with it but he may have just committed a crime while doing it. Fed Ex is the only shipper that allows unlicensed folks to ship and they require overnight(expensive) shipping.

Re: USPS Potential problem
No record is not a good thing. If an item has actually been shipped, it will show what date and time it was shipped. No record would make me believe somebody was pulling my chain or maybe gave me the wrong number.Carrots wrote:Well it will be interesting to see what happens. The tracking number is still saying no record, but even with the holiday if it is going to show up it should do by tomorrow. Regardless a policy violation sounds a little friendlier than a broken law though
I hope you bought from a seller with a history of good feed backs?

ELB wrote:...and as for the USPS website tracking system -- I have found it to be extremely slow in updating. Don't be surprised if it doesn't even show your package being shipped until after it arrives. About the only thing their tracking system is good for is after-the-fact evidence that something was shipped.
That has been my experience with them also. Usually it tells you it has shipped and then tells you it was delivered.

Re: USPS Potential problem
Nope...one would think it would be that way but it isn't. The receiving FFL doesn't have to verify anything other than who they are transferring the handgun to. They usually ask for a copy of the drivers license from the guy shipping the gun. But how they ship it is not the receiving FFL's responsibility.Postal regulations is what determines who can ship a handgun. Federal regulations require the gun be shipped to a FFL. I am amazed the Post Office took a handgun for shipment from a non-licensed person. I am even more amazed the post office allowed bullets to be placed in the package. If they knowingly took it for delivery, your OK, I suppose. I don't know how he would prove he declared ammo and a handgun was in the package when he gave the package to them. I know I would just let sleeping dogs lie for right now. I wouldn't want to draw attention to the screw up at the Post office before my gun arrived.casingpoint wrote:Doesn't the receiving FFL have to verify the sending FFL? If that is the case, your FFL may be required to not accept the shipment from a non-FFL. Something like that. Just a thought. One of few.

Re: USPS Potential problem
Maybe he shipped it through his FFL. I am not sure what penalties would be involved if an unlicensed individual shipped a handgun USPS. I wouldn't worry about it. The heat is on his end, not yours. Was the purchase made on Gun Broker? They will cover up to 500 bucks if the guy screws up and looses the pistol. I don't think the USPS scans every package that ships anyway.
