I would be the same way in that circumstance! Their grand Daughter is at high risk of getting seriously ill from it. Most of the info I am seeing claims the new variant is more transmissible but much less likely to kill a person. The day or two right before Christmas break at my garnd daugters school, several kids started getting it. They let them all out early Friday because they got worried it was spreading. She is in first grade so her school is 1-5. My prayers for your DIL's family. You try to have a very Merry Christmas just the same. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Sat Dec 25, 2021 11:39 amYou know, I don’t know which variant he has. I got the info indirectly through my DIL. I’ll be calling him later today to see how he’s doing, and I’ll ask then. I’m not particularly paranoid about catching Covid, but I don’t want to temp fate either. Plus, his wife is a person who has a lot of anxiety and is a bit of a hypochondriac, so I don’t want to add to her stress. One of their other granddaughters had brain surgery for an aggressive tumor about 18 months ago, and she has been in isolation for a badly compromised immune system during the chemo and radiation treatments. Thankfully, she seems to be in remission now and is recovering well, but her Mimi still has a lot of stress over infecting the granddaughter with something. So between her fears about a sick husband, and her fears about the other granddaughter, we're going to just stay out of the way until her husband is all better.03Lightningrocks wrote: ↑Sat Dec 25, 2021 11:13 amDid he get the new variant. My grand daughter may have it and she gave it to my daughter. I am going over there anyway. They are getting tested Monday but it is all the symptoms of the latest round. It is more like a bad cold than anything. I have been vaxed three times and normally don't get sick so I am going to chance it for Christmas. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Sat Dec 25, 2021 11:09 am I had my first and second shots (Pfizer) in mid-May and early-April. Knock on wood, I’ve avoided catching Covid so far…and I have NOT been wearing a mask or taking any serious precautions. Every year since our son got married (10 yrs ago), we have joined our DIL's family on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter for a big family gathering and feast. We were there for Thanksgiving this year, but my son's FIL got a Covid diagnosis 2 days ago, so we are having a small quiet Christmas this year. Fortunately, he’s not all that sick, so we’re postponing the family gathering for a couple of weeks and are going to play it by ear.

Re: covid shots
Holy cow! The Doctor talked me into the Shingrex since I am 60. I agree with you! That one hurt my arm for 3 days! The second round they recommended was even worse.RoyGBiv wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 7:59 amThanks for sharing your encouraging antibody numbersNotRPB wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 9:37 am got 1st moderna with 1st responder group in January, 2nd shot Feb 4th, boosted Oct 22
Day after 2nd shot during February ice storm. i had been standing over a portable gas heater & felt warm, so i took an ibuprofin & realized the gas heater was warm too. my arm ached a while after both1st & 2nd shot. They said to exercise the arm... that was why it ached, i do not like exercise.
I am part of the TexasCares U.T.study and my antibodies were off the chart protecting me over 2,500 per ml in Sept, 8 moths after the 2nd dose, but i got a booster in October anyway because after EACH of the 1st 2 shots i had more energy like A VITAMIN B-12 , cleaned the house the car mowed the grass, even took a bath once, I got up from the lazyboy to fetch the remote control etc. ...Now, over a month after 3rd Shot Oct booster, i just got results back on second antibody test and i'm still "off the chart protected" over 2,500 antibodies per ml (that's as high as it measures) So, I'm glad I did it & can still pick my nose without washing my hands, that sanitizer hurt when i rubbed my eyes
Since i actually felt better more energy etc after vaccines, I also later got a shingles Shingrex shot last year which hurt way more than the Moderna.
LOL on the sanitizer!
My first Shingrix was a non-event, other than a quite painful injection. Very little arm soreness, although I did hit the gym later that day. Due for the 2nd next week.

Re: covid shots
One problem with believing any "released" studies is that the government has their boot on the back of the necks of any Doctor that does not play along.

Re: covid shots
It seems you have the same suspicions about natural immunity I have. I think it is a sad state of affairs we cannot trust our government to be honest with us. The government is far to invested in keeping this thing going as long as possible. My bet is that democrats are shooting for another mass mail in ballot election so they can stuff the ballot boxes again.flechero wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 10:18 am My wife had reaction, as did my mother in law. One of my wife's Drs said it actually pretty common- they just don't publicize it and many of her colleagues treat symptoms as an independent thing and don't report the relationship to the shot.
I fear that there is a ton of valuable [and damaging] info not being shared with the public.
I'm still waiting for the study that compares the effectiveness of the covid shots vs natural immunity. All the news is unvaxxed this and that.... but the Dr's we know are saying their load is vaxxed/boosted people, or unvaxxed that never had covid... further stating that reinfections are rare.

Re: covid shots
About 60 days after shot two, I began to grow a tail.
