Yes that is beyond unacceptable. What I did was call the DPS's main number and asked to speak with a supervisor over the CHL dept. They then relayed my message to the rep handling my app, who also never returned my three voicemail's, and I was contacted within a 20min period. She lit the fire under Harris County's butt and I had my license within 5 days.

Go lite some fires!

Plastic arrived today!!

I just recieved a call from my DPS rep and she told me they recieved my info yesterday from Harris County and everything is fine and also that my app is being completed right now and will be 'active' as of tomorrow morning. I should recieve my plastic within 7-10 working day's from tomorrow.
Now all I need to buy is my gun !

Not sure where I posted this before about it being the county you live in but I was right. The DPS is STILL waiting for my 'criminal' background check from Harris County, almost 10 week's now!!! I actually recieved a voicemail today from my rep, after almost one month and only AFTER speaking with their supervisor, and her explanation was that it is due to Harris County being so backlogged for the last 4 week's, they have had my app for over 3 months now?

EDIT: I forgot to add that I asked the rep I spoke with this question. 'Why is it that the DPS is awaiting my 'criminal background' check when I supplied a notarized document/disposition of that with my application, I thought that was proof enough? I spend $25 and 8hr's of my time going downtown to get this document to offer PROOF, as requested, that I have no criminal background and so why I'm still waiting'?

My next comment is only due to my complete and utter dismay/frustration with the entire process as it is a JOKE : !! The DPS is a totall joke aswell as my local state rep and the gov's office, they should be ashamed of themselve's! They want our vote but offer nothing in return not even a simple phonecall or email ?

There is none because if you have read other post you can see that other member's have plastic inhand already and they were anywhere from 2-6 week's behind myself and other's.

I am seriously irritated at this point ! After reading this I once again contacted the DPS and was told they are STILL waiting for my background check, WTH !!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been 8 week's now that the DPS has been waiting for my background info which is totally un-acceptable imho, I have NO background!!!! I called the governor's office directly, they pulled up my previous correspondence and had all my info, and I voiced my displeasure and also let them know of the total lack of communication I have recieved from the DPS and the rep handling my application.

The rep verified my phonenumber and said she would forward my complaint to the DPS, yah right how much will that HELP!!

I mailed my app via 'certified mail' so will it be sent normal delivery or overnighted?

I once again called the DPS yesterday to see if they had recieved my background check info that they had been waiting 6 week's for and was told everything look's fine and your app should be completed shortly but she could not tell me if it had been recieved yet? I also brought up the case of other CHL holder's who had recieved their plastic already but were anywhere from 1-6 week's behind me. I was told hogwash and the rep basically contradicted herself when she said "We had a time frame, May and June, where they recieved a huge increase in application's. Then she proceed's to tell me that all application's are processed in the order in which they are recieved !! I said nothing but thank you for your time and I want to let you and everyone else in the processing dept know that we (I mentioned this forum) all appreciate your hard work and the extra time you and the DPS are putting in to catchup.

I had also mentioned that I had left two voicemail's to the rep handling my application and had yet to recieve any correspondence which she said was odd because normally they are very prompt with replie's. Maybe it's just me, that's why I never go to Vegas .

Took my wally walk last night ate a Chili's and went to Wally world after. I was nervous at first but got more comfortable as night went on.

Good luck to all of you who are left waiting. I sure hope that they will be ready for all of us in 4 years when it comes time to renew!

My concern and request for assistance lies with the DPS and their failure to procure my background check information
for my CHL license for over 6 week's now. Here is the information regarding my application and the current status of
my CHL license:

Date application sent to DPS: 06-06-'08
Date application recieved by DPS: 06-09-'08
Date M/O cashed by DPS: 06-16-'08
Date PIN recieved from DPS via email request: 07-18-'08
Current status: Processing application since atleast 07-01-'08

I am a member of the TexasCHL forum and I personaly know of atleast 3-4 member's who have recieved their CHL license
already. These applicant's submitted their application's anywhere from 4-6 week's AFTER I had submitted my application.
I know the DPS is experienceing a 51% increase in application's but I cannot fathom why my application is taking so long
to complete. I had contacted my local state rep Hubert Vo but I have recieved no reply or help from his office.

I am a native Texan who can trace his family tree all the way back to Lieutenant Colonel William Barret Travis.
I have no criminal background or history and I am currently persueing a career in law enforcement. Any assistance from
you or your office would be greatly appreciated.
