If so do I loose time or does the effective date of the renewal date from the expiration of the previous license. Of course this will probably all change by the time I am due to renew - I still have four years to go!

They should send you a notice in the mail about 6 months before your current license expires. The notice will have a PIN number for the interenet and you can use the PIN to order the application packet. I reckon it gives you to option to call as well, but I would have to verify by digging out the letter.

When my PIN showed up in the mail, I scheduled the class with a local person, completed the application in the class and mailed it off.

So.... Yes.... 6 months is about right to start the process

Yes, who knows?

You're now in the twilight zone: you're licensed, but you don't have a license, so you can't legally carry
oh no, i'm still good because it is a renewal. My old one is still valid

OK... Renewal Application Packet for TX and New APP for UTAH mailed on November 18. Nov. 25, the UT charge shows up on my credit card so i know they got it. December 5 and the Texas Online system still shows "Application Packet Mailed to Applicant". Do that ever update the online status to "Application Recieved"?
Alright... according to the website, my renewal license was mailed today. So the complete packet was mailed on November 18 and the license was completed and mailed today, January 13, from the DPS. That's what 56 days? By the time i get it in the mail, it will be a full 60 from door to door.

----edit-----
Re-checked and the web site says "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active" I guess this means it was mailed, but who knows.

Probably should have started a new thread, but I received my Utah permit in the mail today. That's twenty calendars days for UTAH and still no acknowledgement on the Texas web site they've received my packet. :?

I found my renewal letter, with PIN number, on my desk yesterday. It was dated October 18 and my birthday is in April. Last night I went online and started the process so I’ll keep you guys posted as to my progress (I've got lots of time, right?)

If I understand the process correctly, they’ve already charged the 70 bucks to my credit card, they will mail out the affidavits along with a finger print card and a photo holder. I take the renewal course and forward everything back to them notarized and properly completed.

I'm with Steveie_D on this one... get it into them early.

I also emailed the folks where I did my class 4 years ago, but I’m not sure if they are still around. I'm in Sugar Land if anyone has suggestions or recommendations.

Edited to add: Stevie_D, I think the renewal process has changed since your last one. they sent me the PIN before I started the process. Using the PIN, I was able to complete the Renewal Application by computer.
