Re: AR15 80% Lower Group Buy
Order was placed today. I'll be in touch with everybody via PM to arrange build days in the next 2-3 weeks, once my personal schedule is firm.

Re: AR15 80% Lower Group Buy
No difference in the lower parts. The buffer, buffer spring, and buffer tube are the only difference.apostate wrote:Somebody mentioned a pistol build. Should one choose that route, is there any difference in part kits other than the buffer tube? Thanks.

Re: AR15 80% Lower Group Buy
They're $41 each including shipping. If you attend a build party you won't need to purchase jigs, you'll be able to use mine. If you want to buy jigs I made recommendations in an earlier reply. I think on page 2. I'll provide all the information for payment via PM.LDB415 wrote:This may have been covered but I've eaten and slept since then. Do we need to buy our own set of jigs? Where do we send payment? It's $45 each with shipping etc.?

Re: AR15 80% Lower Group Buy
Yes, I am collecting funds in advance; cash, check, or money order. Once everybody has paid for their 80% lowers I will place an order for the total amount. The lowers will be shipped to me and I will make delivery arrangements with each individual. Options will include shipping, pick up from me, and pick up at your build party. Upon arrival I will inventory the blanks and box them up for their owner.gljjt wrote:dcphoto,
I assume you will be collecting funds in advance??? Can you share your plans in this regard?
Thanks for doing this...

Once the group buy is concluded, and everybody has their receivers, I will securely erase the tracking spreadsheet I created.
Very interesting. I'll have the manufacturers letter from the ATF stating our lowers are 80% for anybody who wants a copy.LAYGO wrote:Interesting article, albeit not very useful for our situation, about 80% lowers as far as the ATF is concerned:

Re: AR15 80% Lower Group Buy
I need a well lit, relatively empty, garage or workshop with two separate 115v outlets. A sturdy workbench and air compressor is helpful, but not required. I can host 2-4 people in an 8 hour period, but it really depends on how many lowers are getting finished. I figure 2-3 hours per person for 2 lowers. I'll want to get a couple of multiple person build days under my belt before I schedule a remote build day. Probably the end of February or beginning of March for a remote day.LAYGO wrote:What's your ideal setup to need a DFW date? Re: AR15 80% Lower Group Buy
Lots of places sell it, but I normally get it from http://www.duracoat-firearm-finishes.com. I don't think they're the cheapest, but they carry the full line of Duracoat. Brownells and Midway also carry Duracoat.
You will need the Duracoat (comes with hardener), Tru-Strip, and a small bottle of Duracoat Reducer. It's also not a bad idea to bring a can or two of brake cleaner. I've gotten the best results by degreasing with brake cleaner, then removing the brake cleaner with Tru-Strip.
Full disclosure, if you decide you want to apply a camo pattern I can't help beyond mixing and shooting the paint. I've never done a camo pattern.

Re: AR15 80% Lower Group Buy
No dates for events yet, and nobody has stepped forward to host a DFW event. I don't want to commit to build dates until I have parts on hand. There will have to be several different dates since I can't support more than 2-3 people a day. If everybody who was interested in the first thread signs up, we'll end up with 3-5 days. We should be able to work something out that fits your schedule.RoyGBiv wrote:Dates and logistics will make a difference for my go/no-go decision.
Any possibility of confirming dates and whether or not there will be a DFW option before closing the buy window?
In a perfect world, I'd prefer to make the trip to Austin... Why not.?
But with family, work and volunteer commitments, I'm a bit worried about committing to the parts and then not being able to make the build-out event.
Sorry to be a wet blanket. Not my intention.
Much appreciation for the effort being put in on this.
TIA.
More than likely the build days will be in February and March. Anybody who is planning on Duracoat will want a date in March since temps need to be above 70 degrees, and dry weather, to get a good application. It can be done cold and wet, but it's much easier to get good results when it's warm and dry.

Bare. If you attend a build party you'll have an opportunity to duracoat it if you bring the paint.Rex B wrote:Will these be black anodized or bare?

Re: AR15 80% Lower Group Buy
The ATFs interpretation of the law is that unless you drew the CAD file, created the G-Code, own the CAM software, connect all of that (on your personal computer) to the CNC machine, and do all the setup yourself it isn't legal. I couldn't even provide links to software and CAD/CAM files that are available. Plus, If you already have all that stuff you probably don't need to use my machine.MoJo wrote:Care to explain what you mean? If it's not going to be legal why are you pursuing this? Enquiring minds want to know.dcphoto wrote:I'm still waiting to hear back. At this point it's not looking like it'll be legal with the equipment I'll have.tiviti wrote:Did you ever hear back regarding the CNC?
Even with all of that being true, there have been a number of machine shops (at least I'm told by the agent I spoke to) that have still be busted for allowing a customer to build 80% lowers on their machines. I'm not willing to expose myself legally, or anyone else, to the risks from letting others use my CNC machine. Interestingly, this is why they say printing a 3d gun on your own printer, from a file somebody else made, is not legal. Because you didn't do the work. You just downloaded a file and hit print.
However, you can use my equipment to complete a lower manually (on a drill press, for example), as long as you do all the work yourself. I can't do any more than tell you how to do things.
