That must've been some time back? There were state liquor stores in SLC two years ago when we visited on our way south to The North Rim.oohrah wrote:We were on a long camping trip west, and when in Utah, my Dad stopped at a liquor store. To buy booze, he had to register/purchase a state license to buy alcohol. Not that he cared, being from Texas, but he figured it was the way the church controlled their members.

Yes to alcohol in SLC. The state stores showed up on my GPS and were reasonably priced. Speaking of SLC, Temple Square is maybe the most serene place we've ever visited.WildBill wrote:Your visit was probably prior to 2002. I was told me that one of the conditions of rewarding the 2002 winter Olympics to Utah was that they would have to allow bars at the Salt Lake City airport and reduce the restrictions in other venues surrounding the game. I can't personally vouch for that, but I had a layover in Salt Lake last summer and I was impressed with the quality of food in the restaurants [both served alcohol].Jaguar wrote:I once had a three hour layover in Salt Lake City, so I figured I'd go find the bar and have a drink in between flights. After walking around looking for a bar for like 30 minutes I finally asked a security guy where's a bar at? He looked at me and said, "you're in Utah, son" and walked off, like somehow that explains it. Took me a while to figure it out.

Mayhaps, we were in SC before CC.03Lightningrocks wrote:If I'm not mistaken, the reason the citizens of SC perceive this change as an improvement is, previously, they could not carry in these establishments under any circumstances.

Re: now that south carolina has passed restaurant carry...
We've lived in South Carolina on two different occasions in the late 80's and again in the early 90's and SC had some interesting liquor laws back then, for instance:
* Bar drinks came in miniatures that the server had to open in front of the customer.
* Should you choose to visit another table, the server had to carry your drink.
* Liquor was sold only in state stores that were identified with big red dots.
SC people drank a lot....and, we tried to keep up. This has nothing to do with Texas.

Come to think of it, I don't think I have either. I would think any such place that gets >51% of its income from the sale of alcoholic drinks would be more a bar/honky-tonk with food rather than a restaurant with adult beverages.jmra wrote:You can't carry if the establishment get 51% or more of its revenue through alcohol. I've never been in a restaurant in Texas where I couldn't carry.
