Anybody remember the 1975 movie "JAWS" where the Mayor and City Council denied the existence of the man eating shark off their beach?Oldgringo wrote:It's not only the cops and Costco that want this incident to go away. No, there have been incidents with alligators, not crocodiles.philip964 wrote: Kids have been eaten by crocs in Disneyworld?

These things are not good for business.PeteCamp wrote:Well, I'm kinda surprised that has to even be asked, given that the modern boom in Las Vegas was started by Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky. I think a lot of people truly believe (or hope) that everything in Las Vegas is free of the mob influence, but if there was ever a whole city owned by the mob, it is Las Vegas. And guess what? I don't think the mob just gave such a lucrative money maker away. JMHO anyway.Rex B wrote:Then the best thing they can do is lay the cards on the table, and act appropriately if the cops were wrong. That means dismissal, criminal charges, and speedy, fair trials. Anything less and Las Vegas has a corrupt police department. If that's true, what else is corrupt?
"What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" is more than a catchy ad slogan. It's a way of life. Las Vegas has no more desire to air this incident than Disney World does to announce when kids get eaten by alligators in Fort Wilderness campground.

Had Mr. Scott not been of the white peruasion, this apparent travesty would have been headlines played and replayed on every media network. That's sad, but that's the way it is.seamusTX wrote:The comments about this case on various web sites are amazing, or would be if I hadn't lost respect for a large fraction of the population. Various anonymous commentators claim to know what happened, and either the cops are murderers or Mr. Scott was a lunatic.

ITMT, somebody (perhaps a lot of somebodies) know/s something and they ain't talkin'. The C of C and other tourism folk certainly don't want it to get out that Vegas is a "shoot first, ask questions later" community. If the matter is not kept alive, it will surely slip quietly into the night.

Hmmmm? Let's see, can you spell c-o-v-e-r-u-p? Certainly, neither the police nor the casinos nor any other tourist driven endeavor in Las Vegas want this shameful act publicized.WildBill wrote:Another point that puzzles me is that there was the mention of only one gun, in Erik Scott's carried IWB. Also, I am wondering about the so-called "irratic behavior" of Erik Scott. It doesn't see to be on the 911 call and they have no witnesses that reported any behavior out of the ordinary.

Re: CHL holder killed by police in Las Vegas at a Costco
Hmmm? Given the vast tourism traffic to and from Las Vegas relative to the static population, the odds of a LEO shooting a tourist whose survivors have to get back home are quite a bit higher than the same LEO shooting a resident whose survivors remain in Vegas to pursue the event. That is assuming that the LEO feels the need to shoot somebody?baldeagle wrote:Interesting op-ed in the Las Vegas Review Journal yesterday. Public unions do not serve the public anymore than Civil Service serves the public.Hoi Polloi wrote:

03Lightningrocks wrote:This is a seriously screwed up situation for sure. I have a memebership at the Plano Costco and have returned all kinds of stuff. Opened and not opened. They have never even hesitated to refund my money. Weird that this Costco would start an altercation over returned goods. I brought back a half case of green beans because the date had expired. I bought the case the week before but the date expired like ten days later. I told the guy I would not have bought the beans if I had noticed the date was about to expire. he said no problem and refunded my entire amount. Maybe it is more of a crime to return goods in Nevada than Texas.
Seriously though, if it turns out these cops executed this guy, they should all be tried as criminals like any other murderer would. Being a cop should not give you special privileges to kill people.
Costco is not Las Vegas and Las Vegas is not Costco. Las Vegas is Las Vegas and "that's all I have to say about that". Don't go to Las Vegas if you feel a boycott is in order.
The truth will out and justice will be served - one way or another. Sadly, Eric will still be dead.

What does that one commercial say, "What happens in Vegas...stays in Vegas"? You reckon that they've heard it so often that they believe it?Charles L. Cotton wrote:I sure hope nothing "happened" to the video, but his comment sure makes me worry.

"Don't judge the book by the cover" - Bo Diddly sung that. Las Vegas is in Nevada, it is not Nevada. Similarly, Chicago is in Illinois, it is not Illinois, etc., etc.CodeJockey wrote:Charles, I couldn't agree with you more. Cotton wrote:One thing is certain; I'll never step foot in Nevada again, unless it is business related and absolutely necessary.
Chas.
Yes, I did live in Nevada once upon a time - some 400 miles north of Vegas and a 100 miles south of Reno. There was great hunting, great stream fishing and delightful people in Yerington, NV back then. Likewise, I went 2-11 grade in deep Southern Illinois some 300 miles south of Chicago and went back to Illinois to work in a steel mill in Alton, IL upon graduation from the Univ. of Tenn. Granted, this all happened many, many moons ago and I have no plans to return to either state.
