Re: Shooting articles not well received.
I also forgot to mention that 100% of the world's master gunfighters, everyone from Hickock and Doc Holliday through Bill Jordan and on to Jim Cirillo used the inferior index-finger-on-the-trigger technique, too.

Re: Shooting articles not well received.
I'm left-handed, so I have to use the same clearly inferior method of using the index finger to pull the trigger that 100% of the world's pistol shooting champions do. Strangely, every single round I fire goes exactly where I point the gun. Physics is weird like that.

Re: Shooting articles not well received.
Just because a technique is widely known and therefore is in use doesn't mean it is any good. The sideways "gangsta" technique is in wide use, too. Should we all switch to that, too? How about a combination of the two?
I thought we were discussing the rediculous thecnique of using your middle finger to pull the trigger anyway, and not point shooting. That is a poor technique and even the very examples you give to illustrate that it has been in use for a long time say that.

Re: Shooting articles not well received.
Sorry, but using the middle finger to pull the trigger is foolish. First off, why in the world would you want to weaken the grip on your pistol like that? You leave only your two weakest fingers, your ring and pinky holding onto an object that is violently whipping upwards. Secondly, your index finger is far more dextrous than the middle and therefore better able to perform a smooth manipulation of the trigger. Thirdly, laying your index finger along the slide exposes it to the likelihood of injury, either from lacerations or, in the case of a revolver, from the hot gasses that come out from the gap between the cylinder and the forcing cone.
