Good, I am glad that others know how to sign up for TXLEG alerts. Great way to keep up with bills.TexasJohnBoy wrote:Got this today:85(R) HB 560

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
Phil King from Parker County as the Chair can only help. Nevarez is a hardcore lib, tried to POO kill both OC and Campus Carry last session. Schaefer was the one who spearheaded getting 30.06 dropped to a class C misdemeanor IIRC. I don't know much about the others.BeanCounter wrote:Texas House Committee Appointments

Looks like the committee is 6/3 Republican / Democrat... should be smooth sailing for gun bills among that crowd.

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
There is only one committee in each chamber that has anything to do with weapons / concealed handguns and things of the like. When you look at the actual bill, it will have "Subjects" with names and codes for those subjects. Bills are assigned to committees based on those codes.MeMelYup wrote:Hopefully it will be assigned to the right committee.
Anything with Weapons (I0887) and / or Concealed Handguns (S0241) will get sent to Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee in the House, and State Affairs in the Senate.

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
This bill should be our only priority. Lt. Gov seems to be pushing for reduced or eliminated LTC fees... so we don't need to push too hard on that one IMO.
This will need to be pushed hard.
I have already contacted Konni Burton and Craig Goldman, and had my wife do the same. I will have my parents, in-laws, and sister and brother-in-law who have LTCs contact their reps as well.

Ruark wrote:Another little data point I've read often, although I haven't seen a cite, is that "police officers are seven times more likely to commit crimes than LTC holders." Seems like this would make an effective point in a committee or on the floor, but I haven't heard anybody use it.....LTC 21 times less likely to commit a crime than the general public"...
You would be 100% correct, however, anyone who said anything like that would be maliciously branded as "Anti law enforcement" and every lefty in the state would trip over themselves to run to the nearest TV camera to denounce how LTC holders all think that they are better than the cops and above the law... and that we hate puppies and kittens.
Politics....

Re: HB 560 - Holy Grail?
I'd be OK with making it like a college campus, CC is fine but no OC. Then we can chip away at the OC part later.locke_n_load wrote:So with passage, you could conceal or open carry at primary/grade schools correct, just no OC at colleges? Don't think I would OC in a grade school (maybe dropoff at door), but it would be nice to know that it's not a crime.
We can expect HUGE push back from HDHV on this one.
