Its worthwhile to note that Campus carry if we get it through will be a major breakthrough, in furthering the cause of 308. I think that allowing campus carry and with the public observing that there has been no blood flowing on the classroom desktops. will make a bill like 308 might become an easier sell. next term. The university Bureaucrats. were a powerful force to overcome. Now beaten we can move on to the bigger goals.

Campus carry is a huge accomplishment, and will save lives. even if it is a baby step. It is a step forward. 10 years ago I would have thought this would be an impossible achievment. Today its within reach. Thanks to Charles and a few others on this forum who have done a tremendous amount of work

Amen to all of the above. As I get older, I see the value in taking things slow and getting the job done, even if it takes a few sessions. The "all or nothing" bunch who want unlicensed carry or they will throw a fit are not going to be the ones who get it done.

Exactly right!! So much political capital was spent on how we can carry (open-carry) as opposed to where we can carry (everywhere) that HB308 will not pass. That's a crying shame as it impacts 840,000+ CHLs in a manner that increases personal safety. Unfortunately, that argument has fallen on deaf ears. Not one life will be saved by open-carry, but how many people will be robbed, assaulted, raped or murdered walking between their cars and a location that is statutorily off-limits? Yeah, I'm bitter, very bitter!

Chas.

Do you really think it is completely dead? Anything we can do to revive it?

We have been going on with OC and CC for so long, hopefully these two issues clear this session so that we can get things like this front and center in future sessions. This and making 30.06 a non-arrestable class C.

I also feel like the whole bar thing is an unnecessary redundancy as its already against the law to be intoxicated while carrying.
I agree. But some guys go to bars just to look for a fight. You think that guy is going to follow the law? I don't see why the DD can't be carrying.

I just don't do bars. Period.

I seem to remember Charles making a statement that any time anything about 45.035 came up that the biggest question he got was about bars. It appears to be a problem for many.

I bet it would get us 10% more votes if the bars were still prohibited. Who knows, might pass just fine with them included. Try it with them this session. If it doesn't pass, try it without them next session.

You got it, it sure would. It is illegal for an unlicensed person to CC anywhere but their own property or vehicle. So, the list in 46.035 is only for CHL holders... and since SB17 OC is for CHL holders only, it would follow that the current list of places would be equally off limits to both OC and CC should OC pass.

If HB308 passes too, it opens it up for both OC and CC. Keep in mind, a hospital, church, racetrack, amusement park, hospital..... could still post 30.06 and / or 30.07 to exclude carry there.

College campus (not just the buildings) were specifically exempted from even licensed OC should SB17 pass. That is one difference where you can CC (If SB11 passes) but not OC.
