I don't think it was ever illegal in Texas to carry long guns openly. So no law was made to make it legal.VoiceofReason wrote:Forty years ago (give or take 5) mainly in the rural areas, ranchers and farmers used to carry long guns openly in a gun rack in their pickup trucks. They had a need for this. I assume the law allowing open carry of long guns was made to accommodate the ranchers and farmers.

Re: Open Carry Texas Plans Protest at DPS Headquarters
A law enforcement officer is just a guy doing his job, same as you and me.
Protesting him rather than those who give him his job and define the job is just silly.

Dressing like "Duck Dynasty" rejects, brandishing (yes, I said brandishing) guns and taunting the police is not the right way to win OC support of the voting public, the police or the legislature, IMO. OTOH, TV cameras love it and the anti-gun liberals see it as substantiating their position that guns should not be allowed on the streets...or anywhere else.
It is all in the presentation. Perception is reality.

In fact if it weren't for the OC radicals we might already have OC.JALLEN wrote:You all realize, of course, that this is what the British said about the trouble makers in Boston and on Bunker Hill.
Instead of running around causing trouble, throwing tea in the harbor without an environmental impact report, etc., they should have sent well-dressed, well-spoken representatives to London for a sit down with King George and worked it out like gentlemen.
