#4 Buckshot is my load of choice for my 870.
I use 2 3/4" shells because I can fit one more round in the magazine than will fit with 3" magnums.
18.5" barrel with no choke, just "cylinder bore".
This is a dedicated home defense weapon. Longest possible shot inside my house would be about 38'.

I think he has a video or at least pictures over there (haven't looked at his site in a while) that demonstrates 00 Buck penetrates more layers of sheetrock than does a .223 rifle.
