As I said in the post, we do not want to discourage discussion and debate on specific incidents, whether those incidents involve good or bad treatment by law enforcement and/or government policies. The facts are what they are and such discussions are legitimate.

It's also entirely proper to discuss certain statutes or government regulations and policies, such as the illogical restriction on purchasing handguns outside your home state, or the BATFE's absurd enforcement tactics designed to drive FFL's out of business.

What we are going to stop are threads or responses to specific incidents that turn into a global condemnation of LEO's, their agencies or the government; i.e. something to the effect of "What do you expect, all COPS are bad and the government is out to get us."

I hope this explanation helps.

Law enforcement threads and posts

The Moderators are concerned about a growing trend in some threads and posts dealing with law enforcement issues. Discussions about specific events or law enforcement agencies policies and procedures are legitimate topics. However, we are seeing more and more posts and threads the themes of which are more in the vein of “I hate COPs. While we do not want to quell legitimate discussions of events and issues, we cannot and will not allow TexasCHLforum to become a bully pulpit for COP-bashing. We have received PM’s from members expressing the same concerns.

This is a difficult issue to address. We want to encourage legitimate discussion and debate, while preventing unwarranted or general attacks on law enforcement. I wish we could give better guidelines about what is and is not going to be considered appropriate topics, but very difficult to document. That said, I think most people know what we are talking about and know when a post or thread goes beyond discussion of a legitimate issues and into venting against law enforcement or the government. All such posts and/or threads will be deleted, after the Moderators have had the opportunity to develop a consensus. This is the approach we take with issues other than blatant violations of forum rules and it’s especially important with this topic.
