This turned out great and I'm thrilled it did. I also appreciate the dispatcher telling her to "hold on to the gun" instead of telling her to put it down.

I am presuming she heard enough to realize it was a break-in and not a family member coming home, so shooting through the door was considerably less risky. I would NOT suggest an adult do that; identify the target first. But with a 12 year old kid, it's quite possible she could have been frozen in fear and not fired, if the intruder had broken through the bathroom door.
