It's already been said, but do not take a gun or a single round of ammo into Mexico!! Find some place in Texas to leave the pistol and ammo, then get them back when you are back in Texas. I'd call a local PD in the town where you cross and see if they'd keep them for you until you get back. They may or may not, but I'd be worth a try. Heck, you can rent a safe deposit box at a bank and leave them there until you get back.

Don't take them into Mexico!!
