I just got back from the NRA Committee and Board meetings today and I apologize for the slow response.
Yep, we're on for Oct. 29th and I hope we have a good turnout. Marc told me about the numbers for the Julia Simpson benefit match and the shooting community can be proud.
Regards,
Chas.

IT'S A GO FOR OCTOBER 29TH
We have final approval to use the classroom/meeting room (a/k/a Blue Building) at PSC for October 29, 2005. This means we're on for the TexasCHLforum Day at PSC.
We aren't sure exactly what formats will be used in the bays, but we are leaning toward setting up 2 bays with IPSC style stages, 2 bays with IDPA style scenarios, 1 bay with 1 or 2 Texas Stars, one bay has two steel plate racks, leaving two more bays to use for instruction, open shooting, or whatever we decide.
The barbeque cook-off team, Bun Stuffers, will be there for anyone who wants to buy lunch from them, rather than bring your own. They have served at the last three Texas State IDPA Championships and everyone seemed to like their food.
What classes are going to be offered is still uncertain. I will give an update on that ASAP.
Please RSVP if you are coming. It would be nice to post your RSVP here so other folks can see who's coming. However, I really need you to send me an email if you're coming, so I can give the Bun Stuffers a good count. They have given us a cut-off date of October 22nd to be able to plan for the number of folks they'll be feeding. If you can't RSVP by Oct. 22nd, you are welcome to come anyway, but you'll have to plan your own lunch.
So, let's have a great time and put some faces with the screen names! We really do want this to be a family affair, so bring the spouses and kids.
Regards,
Chas.

Well, funny you should ask this question. We're now looking at Saturday, October 29th. I must have been having a "Sometimers" moment when I suggested October 1st; I'll be in an NRA Board meeting that Saturday. Most folks didn't like September, because of Labor Day and other reasons, so we've been trying to get on the PSC schedule for a time other than our regular IDPA match date on the first Saturday of each month.dws1117 wrote:Chas, has a date been decided upon? If so, what can I do to help?
Psssst....October is better. :D
The only thing I'm waiting on now is confirmation that the classroom would be available for Oct. 29th. We'll need that, as well as some other buildings, and the pistol bays.
I'll let you folks know as soon as I find out about the building.
How does Oct. 29th sound? It has to be either the first Saturday of a month, or the fifth Saturday. There are only about four 5th Saturdays each year.
Regards,
Chas.

Poll added
I've added a poll to help keep up with opinions about the Sept. v. Oct. options. Please vote, if you think you might be able to join us.

UPDATE: TexasCHLforum Day at PSC
Okay guys/gals, I got approval from the Board at PSC to hold the TexasCHLforum Day at PSC that Onerifle suggested. It will probably be this fall, so we can try to avoid the hottest part of the year. It will be scheduled in place of our regular monthly IDPA match, which is the first Saturday of each month. We'll probably schedule it for September or October, but September would be on Labor Day Weekend. This may be good for some folks, not so good for others. I need to get your opinions on which month.
At this point, we plan to use all six of the pistol bays, plus the PSC classroom and perhaps the office as well. If there are enough people coming, I'll see about getting the barbeque cook-off team we use for the Texas State IDPA Championship to come. We hope to have each pistol bay set up for a different style of shooting (IDPA, plates, pins, Texas Star, IPSC, open shooting). The Classroom will be used for a 10 hour CHL class for new (and renewal) applicants. We may also run an NRA class, either Basic Pistol or Personal Protection in the Home, and have NRA Instructors on the range to help new shooters. Our goal is to have something for the whole family, including the kids.
As I said before, this is a pretty ambitious undertaking for a first-year event, so I need to get a pretty good idea how many folks will be able to attend. I want to thank Onerifle for a great idea; this could really be fun. Who knows, if we all have a good time, we can make it an annual event.

Chas.

TexasCHLforum Day at PSC?
Onerifle made a suggestion I really like; a TexasCHLforum Day at PSC. PSC Shooting Club, Inc. is a private gun club in Friendswood, Texas about 25 miles south of downtown Houston. I have spoken to a couple of the PSC Board members and I think we may be able to get approval.
We are in the very early stages of planning, so early in fact I'm not sure what we're going to do! However, we would use all six pistol bays, the IDPA building and the PSC office/classroom. Hopefully, this would be a two-day event for the whole family, with open IDPA style shooting, NRA Instructors for the kids and other new shooters, a CHL class on Saturday, barbeque, perhaps even daycare for the kids (that one may be a little tough to pull off, but I'll try.)
This is a very optimistic undertaking, but what do you think folks? Is there enough interest to pursue this further?
Regards,
Chas.
