The votes are clearly there, but as you noted, time is not on our side. Any delays like we are seeing with employer parking lots and it's dead.Keith B wrote:I think the odds of it passing in the House are great, IF and only IF it will get through committee and Calenders quickly enough to be set on the House calender far enough up the list to get to debate and vote.pbwalker wrote:and the odds of it passing the house?Charles L. It's now on to the House.

Absolutely. Things will have to fall into place just right to get this done. That's why people need to be ready to respond literally on a moment's notice.Kalrog wrote:We still have a potential time crunch in the House though, right?
Very good news; the Senate version of the campus-carry bill passed to 3rd reading which means it will pass the Senate, unless something very unusual happens. Then it goes to the House.sss wrote:So, for those of us who haven't had a chance to watch... What the heck happened today? Good news or bad?
That amendment was surprising as Senator Lucio is a co-author of the bill and when the record vote is available, I'd be surprised if he didn't vote for it. I was afraid that "parental request" amendment might pass and it would have created a nightmare scenario.FuziDave wrote:that was some good TV.
that guy with, I think it was, amendment #4. his rude response "read the amendment!!". you could tell he didn’t have much thought behind it. just read from a script.
It was a killer amendment and both knew it. Under current law, any university, primary or secondary school can allow guns on campus simply by putting that in writing. Her amendment would have gutted the bill.J.R.@A&M wrote:It sounds to me as if Senators Van de Putte's floor amendment (Amendment 1) which Duncan argued for) simply wants to pass the buck from the legislature to the Boards of Regents.
Correct, Alice Tripp is the lobbyist for TSRA, but she's not an attorney.ELB wrote:I believe you must be referring to Alice Tripp.toddlinder wrote:
I also want to say "thank you" to Charles, the TSRA lawyer (lady whose name I forget right now), and others for all the work they have done.

I'm going to do exactly that for next session. As ELB said, TSRA already has an email alert system and that's a good one also. I can react a little faster and I can say . . . well I'll leave that alone.shawn wrote:One suggestion for future legislative session... can we set up some sort of email distribution list for these time critical things. I have a lot of sites that are blocked from work, but I want to be able to respond quickly if needed. Maybe something that only Charles can send from so we don't get a lot of spam and chatter.. just the good stuff. Just a suggestion.
I have to withdraw this statement. I don't want to mislead anyone.Charles L. Cotton wrote:HB2730 passed. The Driver amendment was not re-offered. More work is in progress, but I can't go into any details at this time.
