New Rule for Market Section Posts

The Market Sections of the forum were created as a courtesy to participating members of TexasCHLforum. A recurring problem is determining whether a person is a contributing member, or simply someone who joined solely to post an item for sale. Setting a minimum number of posts is one option, but it has it flaws. A member can post "me too" posts just to get to any arbitrary minimum, then post items for sale. On the other end of the spectrum is a long-term member who rarely posts, but has something to sell.

In an effort to address this problem, we have made the following changes to the Market Section rules. The Market Section is still intended solely to the use of contributing members. By contributing member, we are not talking about money, but people who offer their experience and questions in posts. However, we will no longer require a minimum number of posts by a member in order for them to post an item for sale. So if a new member, or a long-term member who hasn't posted much if any, wants to post an item for sale, they can do so. However, if the only post someone makes, or if the majority of posts they make, are Market Section posts, then the posts will be deleted and the member's registration will be deleted. Our goal is to give new members the benefit of the doubt when it comes to posting items for sale, not allow people to join just so they can use the Market Section.

We hope these changes will make the Market Section more useful to the members. If the rule modifications are abused, we'll have no alternative but to return to the more restrictive posting requirements.

Please note, the Market Section rules apply only to offering items for sale, not seeking to purchase items.

Chas.
