Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been advertised as private funds supporting this buy back, no taxpayer money.
I don't know if you are wrong or right.
The article linked to said: "The Austin Police Department is paying cash to take guns off the streets."
So you can understand my conclusion.
The article does mention the Greater Austin Crime Commission in the very last sentence but doesn't say why you would call them.
I'm all for private groups wasting their money any way they want.
And, BTW O6nop, we agree: If they waste their money on feel good schemes like this they won't have money for lobbying or some other method of attacking my rights.

Hmmmm. This sounds like a Win / Win / Win - The folks from GACC get to feel good about themselves.
We get hard cash for our junk guns.
HCI and other gun control groups get... nothing!

would be kinda silly for some one to be taking a stolen weapon up to the PD to trade in dont ya think?
Actually, no.
Most of these gun buy backs advertise "No questions asked." So BG can turn his stolen property into quick cash no questions asked.
And its all paid for by the Austin city taxpayer.

Meanwhile the city of Austin is laying off teachers but, apparently, they have tens of thousands of dollars to waste on stupid "feel good" schemes like this one.
