I think that was possibly the best j frame built if you can handle the recoil from a 14oz .38

can’t be as bad as the recoil from a 13oz .357 magnum.
That said, if I had to do it all over again (642, 640, M&P340) I’d buy an exposed-hammer model. The "hammerless" models are easy to conceal and draw from concealment, but the lack of a single-action option is noticeable.
