I want to stress that only a fool wants a CW2. The cost, both in lives and resources would be more than most are willing to bear. But at the same time, only a fool looks the other way and pretends that such a thing simply isn’t possible. And if one thinks it is possible, then only a fool ignores the probabilities—possibility and probability being two different things.BigGuy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 7:43 pmA little more than 12 months ago I would have laughed at and ridiculed that idea of an actual Civil War, or Texit. Not so much now. Trying to get myself in the right mindset to do what is right if it comes to that. For the first time, I'm getting an inkling of what the founding fathers must have felt. I hope I have the courage of the men who followed them through the brutal path to a free nation. At one time, (I think still) the greatest country in human history. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Sat Oct 31, 2020 6:54 pm I’m guessing that Trump will take Texas, but not by as big of a margin as we would have expected. I might be wrong about the size of his victory, and I hope I am.
I wish I were as confident about the national results. If the "woke youth vote" indeed swarms to the polls in the numbers predicted by the Democrat Steno Pool (AKA “the media”), then a Trump victory is nowhere near certain.
If Biden wins Texas (not likely), republicans will react with vocal disappointment, but they won’t pour into the streets and start rioting and burning. Democrats will pour into the streets to celebrate, and some of these celebrations will turn violent. (Think of Lakers fans burning cars when their team wins a championship.)
If Trump wins in Texas (most likely), there will be isolated incidents of leftist violence in some of the larger cities, but it won’t be widespread. Republicans may turn out in isolated celebrations, but any violence coming out of these will be the result of AntiFa types attacking the celebrants.
Nationally, it’s going to be a wholly different story. If Trump wins, the crap the left has engaged in for the past year is going to ramp up significantly, and the past 12 months will seem like a picnic. If Biden wins and he starts on his gun agenda, CW2 kicks off before his 1st year is over.
I’m one who thinks that such a thing is always possible, and that the probabilities are merely dependent on what kind of forces are being brought to bear onto the sociopolitical landscape at any given time. I’m now 68 years old. There are other forum members who are older than me, who may well remember things differently than I do. But what I remember is that there has been no time in my entire personal political life, going back to 1970, when the nation has been as polarized, angry, and fed up as it is today; a time when people are openly talking about a CW, and making preparations to survive one. I’m not limiting this to just "our" side. Many on the left feel exactly the same way.....AND there are those on the left who are actively trying to push things toward a violent revolution, out of which they believe they will emerge as our masters. For our part, I am assuming that most of us would oppose—by violence if necessary—any attempt to subjugate the nation under a communist dictatorship.
Also as an old man, it is my fervent desire that none of this would come to pass, and that regardless of who wins this election, the nation would settle back down into what most of us would call normal. I’d prefer comfort to war. I’m just nowhere near as confident as I was in previous years that things will return to normal, and so I am expecting the worst, while being hopeful for the best.
I want to also add that, as a Christian, I believe that God is in control of all of this, that none of it happens except he allows it, and that none of it surprises him. And that’s what I lean on.
