Re: Nobody but Trans Secy Pete Buttigieg
The title of this thread is somewhat misleading. I don’t think that Sec. Pete Buttigieg is trans…yet…

Re: Nobody but Trans Secy Pete Buttigieg
What follows is the entirety of my answer to a friend who asked me "why not?"
1. He completely lacks logistics experience, at either the .gov/.mil level or the large corporate level. What did he run on as a primary candidate for POTUS? His admin experience as a mayor, his legal experience as a JAG officer, & his diversity experience as a married gay man.
2. Then, and despite his lacking any large logistical experience, Biden appointed him as SecTrans. For good reason, it is normal to appoint people to cabinet positions who have some expertise in the area over which they’ll be in charge. It’s too important not to.
3. Buttigieg's apparent qualifications? He appeals to the LGBTQ base. I don’t care that he’s gay, or that he’s in a same sex marriage. That’s none of my business. It ONLY matters to me that it is his apparent "qualification" for a cabinet-level position, which is ridiculous.
4. All of this became painfully apparent when he abandoned his post during the worst logistical crisis in all of my 69 years, so he could take a 2 month parental leave of absence for his new baby. THAT is dereliction of duty and disqualifying for a cabinet-level position.
5. Imagine of he were SecDef and did this during the outbreak of a shooting war…or if he were SecTreas and did this in the middle of a financial collapse. It would be disqualifying for the relevant cabinet position. SecTrans is absolutely no different.
6. If he needs to take 2 months off for parental leave, and he’s in any other kind of job and the employer doesn’t mind, I don’t have a problem with it.
7. But in a national cabinet-level position where his absence will affect the lives of his 330 million fellow citizens, extending into the nation's economic security, it's ABSOLUTELY disqualifying. Pete Buttigieg is unqualified on experience, & he is unqualified on performance.
