It occurred at about 06:30 in California...which doesn't rule out a heavily impaired driver, but it can't be easy to hit that many people unintentionally. I'll sit on any conspiracy theories until more info comes in, but offering prayers for the injured.
I am waiting for more information to come out but I have pretty strong suspicions that this was not an accident. Driving the wrong way on the street. Not impaired at all. Cadets running in a formation of 75 with escort training officers and two escort vehicles (not sure if marked police units or not). Only reason it was so few hit was that the runners in the front of the formations saw the driver coming at them and were able to dive to the side. The ones hit were towards the rear and never saw him coming because their view was blocked until the others jumped out of the way, leaving them with no time to react.

My guess, with no evidence at all, is that the driver had been rejected from the academy for some reason.
The driver passed a field breathalyzer test. He may have been impaired by some other substance than alcohol. But impaired or not, according to witnesses who observed him coming down the wrong side of the street and then seemingly deliberately swerving into the runners, it looked deliberate.

FWIW, it was a mixed group of cadets from multiple jurisdictions running together. Most, but not all, were LASD. One was a cadet from my former home town's Pasadena PD.

Early release from 5 to 7 month sentence to summer camp.

Remind me not to visit L. A.
DA Gascon never met a criminal he didn’t like better than any random LA County voter. Well, elections have consequences, and in line with the left's claim that we’re a democracy, LA voters deserve to get it good and hard. Maybe they’ll wake up after another year or two of Gascon, but I doubt it.
