We'll see. Not sure how they take into account such as this since they use recorded votes and published positions on gun issues. I understand them trying to keep their ratings as subjective as possible but as long as reps can hide behind not voting and killing bills in committee with them getting a vote, I do not know how they will change the system to consider such.

Hopefully, they'll figure something out.
I’m hoping that Charles will bring this subject up to the board of directors. It’s not enough to vote for legislation - especially losing legislation - if you hide behind what you do in committee. But with more power, comes more responsibility, AND more accountability. If a “pro-gun” legislator is elected to Speaker, and then puts ANTI-gun legislators in the chairmanships of those committees which will have the anti-gun power to kill pro-gun rights legislation.

If SB117 passes, I will consider it a huge success for our 2A rights. I’m growing weary of filing complaints that aren’t being addressed because of a loophole in the law that this bill should fix.
Yeah, we’ll find out definitively what putting venemously anti-gun democrats into the chairmanships of the committees which usually process gun legistiaion will do for us. Any negative result will be 100% on Bonnen’s shoulders. He didn’t HAVE to give hard lefties control of those committees.

I was helping his primary opponent Damon Rambo because I knew he was the likely speaker choice and would be Straus 2.0. Unfortunately his name recognition, incumbency and big war chest crushed any chance of taking him out. Of course I guess someone else that could have been worse like Zerwas could have been worse but I am afraid Bonnen is living up to my expectations. I was SHOCKED to see his reply with his NRA rating as a shield and calling us all "fringe" gun rights groups. I hope the NRA or TSRA or whoever issues a rebuke of him using his rating like that. I contacted my legislators and the Governor and Bonnen's offices to tell them to remove panic button Pancho or move the constitutional carry issue to another committee with a reliable chair. Thanks for keeping up on this issue.
Yeah, I was wondering how Charles, who is on the national board of that organization that gave Bonnen that A rating, qualified as a “fringe” activist, and wondering low long Bonnen will keep his A rating if Charles has anything to say about it. I also wonder how much Charles liked swallowing being called that. If the NRA is a “fringe gun rights group”, then Bonnen is Thomas Jefferson. Unfortunately, Bonnen is turning out to be exactly what is wrong with the GOP, and why I don’t call it home any longer.

Re: Speaker Bonnen's betrayal of Texas gun-owners

Bonnen also will be able to wield power more freely than Straus because he will likely be able to sidestep the GOP infighting that has dogged the House for the last several legislative sessions, Rice University political scientist Mark Jones said.
I would argue that a large part of that GOP infighting was a direct result of Straus's deliberate hamstringing of his own party. Perhaps it is more the case that Bonnen was removed the knife from the GOP hamstring, than it is that he is "sidestepping" any infighting.

All of that said, it LOOKS like Bonnen has taken the knife from the hamstring, and applied it to the jugular. I sure hope he knows what the hell he is doing.

Re: Speaker Bonnen's betrayal of Texas gun-owners

How could this have happened? Did nobody have even a suspicion that he would have pulled a move like this? What have the dems got on him?
