No, I'm pretty sure not.RogueUSMC wrote:I see that but if you have a 14.5" barrel and pin 1.5" of muzzle brake on it, it is not an SBR. Can you do the same with a can in lieu of the brake? and only pay the suppressor stamp?

Re: Question for those with NFA expertise...lol
I am collecting parts for an SBR. I just wanted to get a suppressor out of the way first.RogueUSMC wrote:Nice! I may get a suppressor once this rifle is built but I will prolly wait to SBR for another build. The Annoyed Man wrote:Well I just got back from paying for and starting the paperwork on a AAC 762-SDN-6. I decided in the end to just pony up for factory-made and wait the extra months for the stamp.

No, barrel and can length are considered separate. For instance, consider barrels with integral suppressors.RogueUSMC wrote:I see that but if you have a 14.5" barrel and pin 1.5" of muzzle brake on it, it is not an SBR. Re: Question for those with NFA expertise...lol
Yes it does. But if you've got a 10.5" barrel, and a 1.5" muzzle brake, you've still got only 12" of barrel; too short of a barrel to escape NFA.RogueUSMC wrote:But if a muzzle brake is pinned it counts as part of the barrel for NFA purposes??
I'm actually in the process of putting together the list of parts for my own suppressed SBR build, with help from my son - who works for a Class III dealer/manufacturer. I'm using a 11.5" barreled upper from Aero Precision on a Spikes Tactical Gen 2 billet lower. I'm building my own can.....legally, no less. Not counting the tax stamp (which you still have to pay), it only runs $150 or so in parts, instead of $600-$1000. You can do it at home, and it works beautifully. BONUS POINTS: you e-file it through BATF's website on a Form 1 which only takes 30 days to complete, instead of on a Form 4 which can take 6 months or more.
