When I got ticketed a few years ago by Southlake PD for the same infraction, it turned out that it was a matter of elapsed time. If I had gotten the inspection within 60 days after expiration, there would have been no fine. But in my case, I simply had forgotten the whole thing and I was nearly 90 days overdue.VMI77 wrote:That's what he indicated. It expired in August and I tend not to notice things like that so I didn't realize it had expired. I got the sense that if it had expired in say, October, he wouldn't have given me a ticket. I'm not complaining about the ticket btw, I had it coming. He was very professional and polite --struck me as a fine officer.gigag04 wrote:Bet if you get it fixed the ticket gets dropped.
It was just from years of California habits. In CA, you get a registration renewal "invoice" from the DMV to pay your annual vehicle registration fee. If you car is due for an inspection (they are not required annually), then it says so on the invoice. So you know to go get your car inspected, and the inspector submits the inspection results electronically, and then you send in your payment. So I had years and years of doing things that way, and I never saw an inspection reminder on my registration renewal, and I just didn't think to do it. I know better now 'cause it put a $60 dent in my wallet.
