Maybe so, but it has happened with every single purchase I've ever made at Bass Pro and Cabelas. When my son used to work as a cashier at Bass Pro in Grapevine, they were specifically trained to ask for IDs. Also, I have a merchant account. To the best of my knowledge, I am not barred from asking for ID. Of course, I'm using an online virtual terminal rather than a card swiper. I don't ask for the ID because I personally know the people who hand me their credit cards. They are are my website design clients.jordanmills wrote:It's generally a violation of their merchant agreement to ask for ID. I'm grateful that they ask. Your mileage may vary.
But like I said, I'm relieved that someone is checking when I am asked. Maybe when someone gets into your own shorts for $45,000 the first time, $7,000 the second time, and a few hundred bucks each the fourth and fifth times, you might view it differently. Or not. Like I said, your mileage may vary.
