Not to quibble, but the marine himself said that the media had it wrong about that. He did one combat tour in Iraq, but is currently stationed at Camp Pendleton and was home on a leave.... ...not to diminish his service, but just to get the details correct.Jumping Frog wrote:The TV News video attached to this version of story makes the racial difference obvious. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/marine- ... ide-movie/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;cbunt1 wrote:I don't recall anything about race in the story...Beiruty wrote: I feel this issue escalaed due a racial slur.
A "Mob of menacing teenagers" certainly qualifies as a "disparity of force," especially if the numbers quoted are accurate...
The thug said he was going to knock the wife out, and then he punched her in the face and she was knocked out. I've experienced seeing a sibling with a traumatic brain injury, and believe me, that qualifies as "serious bodily injury". I'd have no hesitation about opening fire. My only concern would be that I only carry 43 rounds of .45 ACP (14+1 plus 2 spare mags). Maybe I need more reloads!
I feel especially bad for the husband. Seems pitiful that here is a Marine on leave for the holidays from Afghanistan, and home is actually more dangerous that being over there. He also ended up on the ground being kicked and pummeled, and was hospitalized.

Re: Couple attacked for telling thugs to be quiet in theater
I know it sounds cold, but you only have to shoot one to get the others to back off. The couple in question reported that they were actually struck several times by several punks while trying to evade the situation, in which they were surrounded by as many as 100 of them. In my book, that is reason enough to draw the weapon, and reason enough to shoot it if drawing it doesn't stop the physical attacks.
Yes, they are just kids, but it is precisely because they lack some of the behavioral filters that come with maturity that they can be so dangerous. I have personally been assaulted like this by a gang of young teenagers on the streets of New York City, and I can tell you that I was definitely in fear for my life. A hundred teenagers can kill you just as quickly as 5 adults can. In my case, it was about 10 of them. You never know until you've actually been in the situation, but from where I sit today, if CCW had been legal in NYC at the time and had I had a permit and been armed, I almost certainly would have shot the kid who attacked me with a broken 40 oz beer bottle in his hand while his cohorts were attacking me with fists from behind and throwing trash cans at me simultaneously. It was more than a little frightening. It was a potentially lethal situation and I was scared to death. A broken beer bottle is potentially a lethal weapon. I was younger and in much better physical condition then, and I was still scared to death. Fortunately, my young age and physical vigor (and a newly minted brown belt) gave me options then that I do not have today, and I survived the situation with nothing more than some bumps and bruises and some injured pride.
