Re: Hunting w/ military rifles
Annoyed, that is a very cool rifle! And , it counts! My brother has the Remington 700 LTR and it's his deer rifle too. It's pretty darn close to the same rifle you have.

Hit "submit" a few minutes ago accidently before I put down my little story. The Mosin's really do make a pretty good hunting rifle. You can even get pretty decent ammo for them, and even reloading stuff for the 7.62x54.

Re: Hunting w/ military rifles
LT, I hunt ALOT with my AR's: deer, hogs, rabbits, coyotes, even feral dog population control out at the pit. I've also hunted with an SKS, M1A (a personal favorite and on my wish list), a Mosin, and a Mauser. I love the old military rifles. I've got a friend who coyote hunts with a Sprinfield 30.06 quite often, but I don't remember the model number. He'd rather hunt with that than his newer .270. Have another friend who hunts coyote calling contests with his Mosin. I'll see if I can scrounge some pics of my friends guns. You've already seen my AR's.
When I was 18, a friend, his dad and I were hunting hogs on the Pecos River near Iraan. We both had SKS's and his dad had a .308 bolt rifle, I don't remember what it was. Jake and I came across a GIANT sow and boy, she didn't like us one bit. We hit her a few times, but she apparently didn't notice. Luckily, we were right by an old pump jack and we ran up the ladder! After a few more shots each, she finally went down. But Jake and I were so scared, we stayed up there for 15-20 minutes! His dad STILL laughs at us about that.
