Most dogs are friendly towards people - I've on occasion taken a neighbor's dog back to his home and politely informed the neighbor that the dog left a mess in my yard that I expected him to clean up. (He did . . . or more specifically, he sent one of his kids over with a Pooper Scooper.) We get along fine.

He will sit there and back at me and show his teeth.

The FIRST time a dog seriously threatened me or a member of my family would be it's last - I will NOT tolerate a threatening animal on my property. (Note the word "seriously" . . . a growling pit bull or Alsatian is a very different from a yappy little dog like a chihuahua or pekingese . . . )

As already cited, TX law permits shooting of a dangerous dog to protect humans or other domestic animals.
