Leaving the waiting room!

Got my plastic today, with one week to spare before my current CHL expires. :woohoo

81 days.

Original license took 56 days, first renewal, 34.

Not the new format - license looks just like the old one, except my face is red. Almost as red as the banner on the TX flag at the top of this forum. :grumble

Oh, well, at least they got all the other stuff right.

Good luck to the rest of you . . .

Re: July '08 Applications

Well, today is Day 75 for my renewal . . . this AM I checked status, and just got "processing application."

So I figured I'd email Rick Perry's office later on - couldn't hurt.

At lunchtime, I looked up the gov's website . . . but before I sent the email, I figured, what the heck, check status again.

Application Completed - license issued or certificate active :clapping:

Now we'll see how long it takes for the plastic to arrive!

On 09/25, 66 days after DPS received my CHL renewal materials, my status changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active." Four days later (09/29) the license was mailed. A day after that (09/30) it arrived in my mailbox--just two weeks before my old license expired.

Best of luck to everyone who's still waiting. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel!

:cheers2:
Good for you!

I'm on Day 68 after dropping off my renewal packet and still "Processing Application" . . . I called, and the nice lady at the CHL office told me everything looks OK except they haven't heard back from the FBI yet - i.e., the Feds are dragging their feet. Since my current CHL expires this month, she said she'd try to put a "push" on the FBI so I get it before my birthday.

Keeping my fingers crossed . . .

I dropped my RENEWAL off in person one week after DPS got your application . . . so I SHOULD be getting mine soon.

I think I'll wait until this Friday (October 3, 10 weeks) and give them a call if there's no change in status.

Re: July '08 Applications

Eight weeks to the day since I dropped my renewal off in person at DPS HQ . . . so I sent a polite inquiry.

The response:

At this time we are awaiting the completion of the background investigation. We do not have an estimate for when this will be complete. Thank you for your continued patience.

NICS checks take a matter of minutes. If you're trying to finance a car or something, a credit check is also done quickly. WHY do background checks for a renewal take so long?!?! :waiting:

Re: July '08 Applications

DPS has had my renewal for 45 days - still "processing application."

If I don't pay my property taxes on time, as the law requires, :rules: there are consequences.

If I don't show up when summoned for jury duty on time, as the law requires, :rules: there are consequences.

If I don't file my Federal 1040 on time, as the law requires, :rules: there are consequences.

If a government agency fails to complete THEIR task on time, as the law requires, :rules: there are NO consequences.

A pet peeve of mine . . . :grumble

Re: July '08 Applications

Dropped my renewal off in person at DPS HQ on July 25.

When DPS originally sent me a renewal notice, it already had a PIN, so I tried to use that to see where I stood in the system.

It worked.

Around August 25, my status went to "Processing Application." It's been holding there now for a couple of days.

Wonder if mine will go through as quick as jaf's . . .
