Re: Yet another Kel-Tec failure...

I'm not trying to change minds here... But the reality is that as a back up or ccw the gun needs to be able to run through the ammo on hand. You don't need locktite to keep it together for a few mags. ( As i don't actually use it on mine) Any weapon carried should be cared for, which includes cleaning. If clean and properly assembled, a keltec is just as likely to work as another pistol that has proven reliable previously. I limit range use to 1-2 boxes of ammo at a time and haven't had the extractor screw loosen up yet. Same with the other 2 keltecs I have owned.

To those who say carry a (insert brand here) then your head is in the sand- all mfrs have failures. And all carry guns need to be proven reliable for the carrier. Anything else is Russian roulette.

Also, price isn't the attraction for me, heck I wish someone else made a super fine, same size and weight option as the pf9. I know they aren't "Cadillacs" but all mine have run reliably - and I doubt that I have just been lucky over the years.

Re: Yet another Kel-Tec failure...

Gigag,

Don't take this the personally, I enjoy your posts (99% of the time) just trying to provide some balance.

EVERY brand has failures... go to any of the mfr forums and read until your heart is content.

By the way, your buddy was supposed to use locktite on that extractor screw when he reassembled the pistol. So, that particular failure is more likely an operator induced error in maintenance.

As for Kahr, I also have one and agree they are nice but plenty of people with failures there also- as evidenced by their forums. While KelTec may have a slightly higher percentage of issues than some other brands- (since they are the smallest, lightest in class) but if they were all junk, KT would have been out of business long ago.
