Very Well Said.
Hmm.... You guys are too kind.

I'm reminded of a line in one of the "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" books. "Whoever has the ability to do what it takes to get himself elected president should by no means be allowed to have the job." I doubt the quote is exact but the gyst is there.

No thanks. I'll pass.

Re: Types of People Post on this Forum

Types of people who post…….

Well, that would be me.

I am 50. I was once very liberal although I’ve owned guns all my life. My father was a LEO so there were always multiple guns in the house. It’s been said if you aint liberal when you’re young, then you have no heart, but if you aren’t conservative when you’re old, you have no brains.

Then around 1981 I started getting “real” paychecks and noticed how much was going to the government. I also noticed that home mortgage rates were 21% and higher. I noticed that my with my wife and I both working full time, we couldn’t qualify for a 2nd hand mobile home. I noticed that our military and intelligence services had been decimated to the point that some third world country could grab one of our embassies and hold 52 people hostage for over a year and we didn’t have the tools to go get them back. Not to mention the fact that the president at the time lacked the moral fiber to do anything short of sending a small force on a doomed mission with the result of making us the laughing stock of the world. Kinda like now maybe??

I’ve pretty much been conservative since. I didn’t even know back then the way I felt had a name. I voted for Reagan, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush, and (ackkk) McCain. I think I was too young to vote in the Carter election.

I thought Pres. Bush Jr. was a horrible president. He gets Kudos for his unwavering stand on keeping this country safe and his stand on abortion. Short of that, I’m hard pressed to find anything substantive that I approve of. His final insult to this great land was to kick off all this crazy “stimulus” money tree business.

I don’t like McCain but I despise Obama because he fails on a couple of my personal litmus tests, that being abortion and guns.

Abortion:
I’ll stay off this subject cause it has nothing to do with guns.

Gun Control:
I’m now talking to those on the forum who are Obama supporters and feel free to flame back all you want. I can take it:
I am astounded that anyone on this forum would discount the importance of the 2nd amendment. If a citizen and voter of a representative democracy falls back on “there are more important issues facing this country” in order to justify a vote for an anti-gunner, then you’re gonna have to ‘splain it to me cause I don’t get it. A government that allows the citizens to be armed trusts the citizens. A government that does not want the citizens to be armed does NOT trust the citizens. It’s really that simple. Since we have a representative style democracy, the politician trusting the citizen is part of the deal. How can you vote for someone who doesn’t trust you? Also, make no mistake; no matter what they say; anti-gunners are for TOTAL GUN BANS, no matter what comes out of their pie holes. That is their end game and they will not stop until that happens.

The 2nd amendment is there for the sole reason of keeping a check on government power. That is it!! No other reason. Duck hunting has nothing to do with it. And the government power that it checks isn’t necessarily the feds. It can be anything all the way down to the local dog catcher that wants your prized bloodhound so he can sell it himself. I know I’m singing to the choir on this forum but I’ve also noticed that there are a few castratos out there in the soprano section that don’t get it. (OUCH!!)

My mom likes to tell the story of when she was very young, seeing her father on the porch of their home near Albert Texas with a shotgun across his arm. Apparently, some “county representatives” liked Opas place and tried to execute a phony land deed claiming that Opa didn’t own the land that he’d been farming for the past 15 or so years. Mom said her dad just stood there with that huge gun across his arms with his wife by his side, holding a box of shells. This was probably at the start of the depression and the land was all Opa had. There were no phones, no 911, no way to get a Sheriff to intercede. The “Men” on horseback and Opa standing on the porch just stared at each other for about an hour and nothing was said. The “men” finally just left and never came back; and yes, the men on horseback were armed as well.

The point is evil like that is still around and the 2nd is the only thing that keeps it in check. The 2nd has absolutely nothing to do with duck hunting with that high tech 20 gauge or plinking cans with your P22. It has everything to do with the citizens being able to keep evil at bay, whatever its source may be.

There ya go.

I could care less about legalizing marijuana. If you’re too dumb to realize the dangers of staying stoned, more power to you. Someone has to clean the toilets. And as far as that goes, good luck on even finding that job as a stoner. The crew that keeps my office building cleaned is pretty sharp, always professional and well groomed. They are most certainly sober.

I own a number of firearms. I enjoy them. Some are heirlooms. Most I’ve purchased or traded for. A couple stay loaded and within easy reach at all times. I’m rarely not armed when I walk out the door of my house. I don’t shoot as much as I would like. My kids don’t like shooting as much as I do but then again, they have much more going on in their lives right now that hold their attention.

I hunt when I can and I drag my kids along, and they love it. I don’t fish anymore but plan on changing that. I used to make quite a bit of spending money as a kid varmit hunting and selling the pelts until J. Carter screwed up that deal. The first vehicle I ever drove was an old gas powered Ford tractor. I was sitting on my uncle’s lap and it scared me to death but is a memory I’ll cherish forever. I’m sure he was doing most of the “Driving” but it was real to me. The farthest successful deer kill I had was roughly 500 yards with a 30-06 mauser action rifle with a Redfield 6x9 scope. I measured the distance with my truck odometer when I drove down to get the animal. I was about 17 and knowing nothing about ballistics other than what I’d learned loading my own ammo, guessed at the amount of rise I needed. The shot hit exactly where I wanted it.

I was raised in the sticks of the Texas Hill Country and now live in the 4th largest metroplex in the country, which is somewhat of a bummer. But I love the life the Lord has given me and I thank Him for all its challenges and rewards.

But what to I know. I’m just some dude.
