A gun shop that I frequent has 380, but it's expensive. Remington UMC at $25/box and Remington Express at $35/box (50-rounds).
If you need 380 that badly, you can PM me and I'll tell you where in the Houston-Galveston area you can find it.

Re: ammo on sale
Stopped yesterday after work. They didn't have any. Told me that whenever they get some in, the first LEO who sees it calls all his friends and they come right in and buy it all up.LarryH wrote:sorry . . . haven't even looked . . . will try to get by there tomorrowBayllor wrote:Has anyone in the Clear Lake area reported any sightings of .380 at Pro Defense in Webster?

Re: ammo on sale
The Wal-Mart at FM 646 and I-45 had a few boxes of WWB 9mm (both 50-round and 100-round) and 45 and 44 magnum and 40 this morning
Lots of Federal 40, quite a bit of Federal 9mm
Quite a bit of RWS (orange boxes, from Switzerland) 9mm
Some Remington UMC in various calibers (40, 45, plus a couple of others I can't remember)
When W-M first began carrying the RWS, it was nearly $17 per box versus $13.50 for WWB, but now it's about $13.
Federal 9mm is $9.50, WWB is $13-something.
The lady said she got two boxes of 380 yesterday -- they didn't last long
Academy also got two boxes of Monarch 380 yesterday -- they didn't last long, either

Re: ammo on sale
JMHO, but firing 135 grain JHP's through your gun will only prove that it likes the 135's --- proves nothing about how it would do with the 180's, especially a different brand.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:But what I perceive to be a drawback to this ammo is that instead of
being the standard 180 grains for a .40, these JHP's are ony 135 grains.
What does anyone think of the specs on this newly available self defense ammo?
I would think that for $22.97 a box, you .40 guys/gals could try out your guns'
feeding of the JHP's, but then actually carry SD loads in another brand, which would
have the full 180 grains of .40 power. IMHO.
SIA
You also need to compare the muzzle velocity and energy of the different brands/bullet sizes. It may be that the 135's are notably faster and have the same energy.
With different brands, the expansion efficiency is likely different, too.
My thoughts, worth about what you paid for them, but I did drive past a Holiday Inn Express today.

Re: ammo on sale
Wal-Mart at FM 646 and I-45 (League City/Dickinson) @ 0800 today:
They just got in some Federal 9 mm and 45, Remington 38 special and 357 magnum -- was not on shelves yet, still in shipping boxes. The lady said the truck comes in about 0400 and the night shift doesn't have the key to the ammo cabinet, so she shelves it about 0800 or so, when she comes on duty.
No 380, which is what I was seeking. If the 38 special had been shelved, I would have picked up a couple of boxes.

My bride found two 100-round boxes of WWB .45 at the Wal-Mart on I-45 and El Dorado (Clear Lake City) yesterday afternoon. She took both of them. (Love that woman)

Re: ammo on sale
True enough, but it's only been the last month or two that 9mm has been showing up at my nearest W-M. I still be picking some up, but we have something like 3500 rounds.surprise_i'm_armed wrote:IMHO, it seems that if you use 9mm or .40 you have a
very good chance to stay stocked up. I see plenty all the time.

The Federal .40 has been on the shelves every time I've visited for a few months.
If you're willing to pay 40% or more over the Walmart-quoted prices (say at a gun show), you can find .45, .38 special and .357 -- I saw one "gentleman" at a gun show who wanted something like $75 for a 100-round box of .380 WWB.
We just don't shoot those guns much.

Re: ammo on sale
The FM-646 and I-45 WalMart had lots of 9mm this afternoon -- nearly thirty 50-round boxes of WWB @ $11.47 and nearly fifty 50-round boxes of Federal @ $9.47, plus the usual batch of Federal .40 and about ten boxes of .44 m0agnum.
The Kemah WalMart didn't have much of anything, other than the usual batch of Federal .40
Neither had any .380, .38 special, .357 or .45
I talked to the lady who does the ordering for the 646 store the other day -- she's had back-orders on everything that wasn't in stock for months -- the company won't even let her place any more orders.

Re: ammo on sale
Wal-Mart in League City/Dickinson (FM646 @ I-45) had nine 100-round boxes (@21-something) and about forty 50-round boxes ($11.47) of WWB 9mm this afternoon.
They also appeared to have the same forty-or-so 50-round boxes of Federal .40S&W and a few boxes of .44 magnum.
Still no .380 or .45
