Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
I would welcome a level headed, well spoken member of this forum speaking on the radio about this. I would try to focus on the simple fact that the law is the law. We are subject to fines (or worse) if we violate firearms laws. Why should governments not also be held accountable?

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
I would think that Charles knows most of the players in Austin. I would love to hear his input about how we can move this forward.

Not sure that I know who Captain Lucas is. Is he with DPS or some kind of captain in the AG's office, or what? And what the heck is so complicated about the law? Looks pretty straightforward to me.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Making a complaint to the Rodeo won't do any good. They are not the owners of the property, and they won't be the ones who should be fined.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
There is no question that the whole place is owned by the county, just like the Astrodome always has been.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
So should the complaint go to the county judge and commissioner's court?

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the complaint has to go to the county, not to HLSR. It is county property and the county would be the ones fined (assuming the law is followed).

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Speaking out against HLSR in Houston is like speaking against the Catholic Church in Rome.
Someone in authority will have to find some male hormones to stand up to them. Or, unfortunately, some citizen will have to be willing to take the ride to have this beaten in court.
I guess there is a possibility that private citizens could file for an injunction to keep this from being enforced. Wonder what Charles thinks about this idea?
As a matter of fact, that would be a great new addition to the law for the next Legislature. A specific provision allowing citizens, not just the AG, to bring injunctions against illegally posted areas.

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
There is no question that the AG could take action immediately, not necessarily fines until the official process is used, but in making a short phone call to county officials telling them that all it takes is a few days to activate the official notification process, and if they don't fix things right away, he will act. Of course, that takes political will.
As far as the time investment by the AG, a few phone calls to get the illegal prohibitions removed takes a lot less time than actually going through the official process.

You mean to force the AG to do his job?

Re: Houston Livestock Show/Rodeo to Prohibit OC
Long ago the rodeo ceased to be a Texas event. It is now just a big business run by big businessmen. They tout how much money they give away in scholarships, but do they ever open their books so that you can see what percentage of their money goes to the stated purpose?
