I understand what you're saying, I think it's possibly how NY law classifies it. Wording aside, the intent is to change from a non-profit to a for-profit.Rafe wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 10:52 amI didn't bother to click to MSN (blech) but the NRA has never been, to my knowledge, a charity. Under its umbrella are 501(c)(3) charities like the NRA Foundation and the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund, but the NRA itself is not, and has not been, a charity.Grayling813 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 1:48 pm https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/ny ... r-BB1q2bF2
“We’re not a charity,” said board member and former NRA president Charles Cotton during testimony on Monday morning.
Cotton had signed papers to officially change that status last April
The NRA is a 501(c)(4)--see https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profi ... 501c4--and that's why contributions to it at that organizational level are not tax deductible. Maybe this is intended to be a new change from that 501(c)(4) status; don't know. But the statement attributed to Charles is 100% correct: the NRA is not a charity in the eyes of the law.
